Kean: 8 years of mistakes led to 9/11 attacks

WASHINGTON -- The litany of government missteps leading to the 9/11 suicide hijackings began with the response to the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, the chairman of the national commission investigating the 2001 terrorist attacks said yesterday.

The Rats can spin in 10 directions, but the facts won't change. Al Queda attacked us over and over and over again while he dithered. When they attacked during Bush's first term after a bruising election and constitutional crisis, he did not even hesitate to go after the terrorists.

The Clinton legacy is one of low character and a cowardly national security policy. Legacy.

Glad Kean clarified his remarks. Previous threads on this the other day seemed to blame the Bush admin. for 9/11.

Kean did not elaborate on the 1993 bombing except to point out that it is "part of a whole thread of events" that, if pieced together, could have helped authorities be better prepared and more vigilant before Sept. 11, 2001.

As if anything could have been pieced together by Janet Reno, et al, who were far more interested in staging their own terrorist attacks on U.S. citizens than protecting them against terrorist attacks by foreigners.

Kean just realized there is no way he can win. If he blames either administration there will just be shouts of "politics, politics". So he is taking the easy way: it will be the fault of a string of unnamed mid-level apparatchniks.

The report will produce nothing useful; nobody will lose a job because of it; nothing in the system will be changed because of it. And everybody, including Kean, knows this ahead of time.

This "study" is one of those rituals which afflict governments of all kinds. Everybody knows it is wasted time and money, but there is no incentive not to waste time and money, so we do it.

I think this article sets out reasonably fairly how 911 occurred...it doesn't put the blame on Bush, and it does go back to 1993 when things started. MOST of the buildup to 911 DID occur before Bush became president. It's interesting to me that I have not heard too much so far on the morning network shows (NBC and ABC) about this...they opened with Michael Jackson's dilemma. I'm not sure if they're waiting for a more complete report (not likely...they usually run with whatever morsels they have!)or..."somebody" has told them to leave it alone so it won't become a democrat problem.

This all started with Carter and his weak response to letting muslim radicals take US Government officials hostage. Then there was the liberal's feel-good have-a-nice-day-people-are-the-same-everywhere movement that blinded most Americans to islamic infiltration.

The bright side is they woke us up from our stupor before they got a nuclear device. Bush is doing the right thing and the 9/11 Generation won't be another generation of flower children.

Who cares about blame? I know the only thing that a democrat wants to do is blame anyone but themselves for everything, and that's getting old.

The entire election cycle next year delivers only one theme to the democrat stable and that's a "We hate Bush Fest", crying "that's why you should vote for me".

It's not going to be a very good year, the next one. My daughter was eating lunch with her group of friends at her school. They started discussing Saddam's capture. My daughter knows to keep her mouth shut around people over issues of politics and religion(even in a Catholic school), but after this dopey girl was going on and on about Dean being so wonderful and GWB being so stupid and without skills as a president, my daughter asked her to provide an example of Bush being "Stupid, or lacking in presidential skills" and prefaced her request with an admission that she'd like to hear more about Dean and his ideas from the girl. When the girl could provide no example of a single GWB policy(a smart or stupid one), nor communicate anything about Dean other than that he was cute and hated GWB, the girl threw her open milk in my daughters face and called her a "Nazi Bitch".

It's going to be a long year between friends.

And some in the mainstream media will continue to work in concert with the democrat presidential candidates and the DNC, to spin Kean's remarks, and the report itself, into a campaign attack on President Bush, this administration, and especially Condi Rice.

Condi Rice is a great threat to Democrats. She's female, black, and conservative, so Democrats must try to destroy her. She proves the fallacy of everything Democrats have been selling to blacks for decades.

I don't know why Kean is "out there" now, hyping himself, with tantalizing allegations, which he backtracks on in later interviews. Maybe he wants attention. Whatever... his use of this tactic reminds me of what McDermott, Albright, and Dean are doing. They make over the top allegations against Bush, then back down after the seeds of hate have been sown among the idiot voters on the left. They don't want to be portrayed a whacked out kooks, but they want their mindless masses to have weapons to use in the coming election war.

The economy is doing great, the war is going well, so except for the environment, this report is all the left has right now to use against Bush.

The Clintons have pardoned more terrorists than were ever captured or killed just so Bill's "legacy" would stay untarnished - at the peril of America.

No conspiracy theory Mr. Kean, just the vainglorious, soicapathic couple in the White House at the time and an administration that simply took orders and executed them right or wrong for fear of loosing their jobs and rank. A more egregious time in America never existed and the Senate failed in their sworn duty to protect the Constitution, therefore the people, they failed to convict the impeached William Jefferson Clinton.
