Three found dead in public toilet
BBC News On Line ^ | December 20, 2003 | Unsigned [Letter to Editor]

The bodies of three people have been found in a public toilet in East Yorkshire.

Police were called to the premises on Piggy Lane, Withernsea, by a cleaner who arrived for work at about 0800 GMT on Saturday.

She raised the alarm after spotting what she thought was one body, though police later found the bodies of two men and a woman.

Detectives have cordoned off the area while they investigate but say there is a strong possibility the deaths are drug related.

A spokeswoman said: "The door to the toilets was locked. The fire brigade attended and using their ladders they got into the toilet and confirmed no signs of life on any of the three."

Detectives say they are still keeping an "open mind" about how the three died.

But Humberside Police have issued a warning to drug users to be wary about a possible bad batch of drugs circulating in the Withernsea area.

They must have gone in there less than one hour after my husband had been in there.

There was a Whoopie Goldberg movie about people cooking up a drug that went awry and killed all these brats at a party. Get a bad batch of X and it'll give instant alzheimers, if you don't die first.

You know, the Brits would get a much better class of people in the public pay toilets if they'd raise the price to 25p.

If they had one these, like in San Fransisco, they wouldn't have had this problem.

And, if you need to find one:Go here for the location of one near you.

I had heard about these public toilets but I had no idea they were sooooo ugly. They look like a tomb.

Oh, dear, don't go in Withernsea
Three dead bodies locked in the lavatory
They were there from Sunday to Saturday
Nobody knew they were there.

The first to succumb was one Amos McWhickell
His urge was intense but he hadn't a nickel
He tried to crawl under, got caught -- what a pickle!
And nobody knew he was there.

The next at room temperature: J. Fisbee Draper
Who'd had too much pizza, then couldn't find paper
And tried to make do with a plasterer's scraper
And nobody knew he was there.

The last of the three was Elizabeth Bender
She'd only ducked in to repair her suspender
But it snapped and got caught in her feminine gender
And nobody knew she was there.

"...In Pig-gy Lane there are three bod-ies in a lav-a-try [sic]..."

(fast forward)

Her-o-in, is in my veins, and in my head
But, a bad batch has, done killed me dead
And all the mean-whi-le

In the loo, there are three croaked, smelly drug users,
And it looks as though they've been there, for a while.
They always keep their needles nice and clean,
They've got clean machines.

(Further apologies to the Beatles for mangling their Penny Lane song.)

Watch it, Laz, I have professional credentials. I have actually written a song that was performed -- once -- in a Chicago concert by a professional singing group (The BOBs). It was titled the "Transcendental Polka," and frankly, it may not have been worth a second performance :-)

This one is adapted from a very old drinking or camp song, "Seven Old Ladies Locked in the Lavatory." By the time I first heard it, probably in the 1950s, it was up to sixteen old ladies.
