Spanier Announces Creation of New Young Republicans student organization at Penn State
Penn State President Graham Spanier announced today the formation of a new student organization to replace the now defunct extremist right-wing group formerly known as the "College Republicans". Free speech does not include hate speech Spanier proclaimed, as he formally closed down the College Republicans student organization.
President Spanier also announced that he had convened a task force consisting of the Vice President for Equity (name withheld), the Diversity Control Board, The Racial Classification Committee, leaders of the LGBTAP (a.k.a A-Z), Womyn's Concerns, and progressive moderate Republicans who will lead the new organization.
The task force has agreed on the following interim charter (students are encouraged to suggest additional guidelines):
The New Young Republicans pledge to:
- Reject the hate and meanspirited recent history of the Republican party as characterized by the 12 years of Reagan-Bush, the Gingrich takeover of Congress in 1994, and the fradulent election of George W. Bush in the 2000 Florida election.
- Respect the Constitutional right to privacy that is the basis for a woman's right to choice in all aspects of her reproductive health, without any limits or restrictions.
- Recognize the right to same sex marriage.
- Embrace and celebrate the homosexual lifestyle as equivalent to that of heterosexuals.
- Work to ban hate speech and impose strict sanctions on violators, including permanent expulsion from the University.
- Support affirmative action in college admissions, government, and private enterprise.
- Support universal health care supported by the government for all citizens of North America.
- Reject any racist controls on illegal immigration.
- Work to ban the possession of handguns and assault weapons, except for government officials, police, and UN peacekeeping forces.
- Support the United Nations and the UN Commision on Global Governance.
- Work toward the US ratifying the Kyoto Protocol.
- Support universal disarmament and the elimination of nuclear weapons.
President Spanier reemphasized his desire to make students of Republican persuasion feel safe on campus, and comfortable that they would be graded fairly at Penn State, provided they follow the diversity guidelines set for them.
Penn State: Our strength is our diversity!
