GERMAN authorities overnight pardoned and released Hans-Joachim Klein, a former terrorist who was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2001 for the killing of three people in a 1975 attack on an OPEC oil ministers' meeting.
The Hesse state Justice Ministry said its decision to pardon Klein followed requests from "several citizens", whom it didn't identify.
Klein was convicted on three counts of murder and three of attempted murder and hostage taking by a Frankfurt court in February 2001, following a trial at which German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer - an acquaintance of Klein during his youthful antiestablishment days - appeared as a witness.
Klein admitted to the court that he took part in the attack on the OPEC headquarters in Vienna, Austria, but denied killing anyone.
Before the trial, he was jailed for 18 months in France while waiting to be extradited.

Hans-Joachim Klein, a former terrorist who was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2001 for the killing of three people.
That is three years per person killed.
It should also be noted that Klein is a friend of German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer (Green Party).
German Minister's killer friend pardoned
Does anyone know why he was tried and imprisoned in Germany, since the attacks took place in Vienna, Austria? What kind of euro-nonsence is this?

I have a coworker who explained to me that he was against the death penalty because most of the civilized nations of Europe were against it, and our use of it made us look primitive.
I told him that European "justice" was certainly nothing to be emulated. This is further proof.

...who was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2001. And was pardoned in less that 2 years.
Being a friend of the communist German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer didn't hurt....
Fischer himself, should have spent many years in prison for his "street activity" and violence as a communist protester.

Perhaps Klein was tired of prison and was suggesting that Fischer get him out before he lets something slip out on Fischer's past exploits.

I'm almost looking forward to the day where vigilante justice once again comes into vogue....

I have an explanation why he only got 9 years for his crimes. We had a law here, saying that criminals who testify against their accomplices (and this testimony leads to the conviction of others) get a lower sentence.

Michael, he was sentenced to 9 years in 2001, it's only 2003.
Has Hans-Joachim Klein really served less than 3 years for killing 3 people?

I thought the German terrorist Hans was killed when he fell from the roof of that building?
To: RJL
It´s hard to believe it for me either.
