2 Rural Va. Areas Puzzled, Calm Over Warning (Rappahannock & Tappahannock)
washington post ^ | 12/23/03

Officials in Rappahannock County and the town of Tappahannock were put on alert over the weekend that something sounding like the names of their Virginia communities was heard among the chatter that triggered the nation's move to a higher alert for terrorism.

Both are small, rural communities far from Washington. Rappahannock is in the western part of the state just past Fauquier County. Tappahannock is a town on the state's east side, about halfway between the nation's capital and Tidewater on Route 17.

Rappahannock County Administrator John McCarthy said someone from the Virginia State Police called the county's sheriff Sunday afternoon or evening to say that "something vaguely sounding like Rappahannock" was heard by federal officials.

"Such an attack would be intended to create widespread fear that no one was safe, even in small towns, NBC reports the officials as saying."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON (AP) - Intelligence gathered by the U.S. government indicates al-Qaida terrorists have a keen interest in striking targets that are far from major cities, such as power plants, dams and even oil facilities in Alaska. Actually, there is an Arabic word, rah-pah-hanaq, which can mean 'where's my turban?' or 'that isn't toilet paper', depending on the context in which it's used.

Tappahanock is about an hours drive from DC, and is about 25 minutes from the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Dahlgren, VA) where Aegis is located. Dahlgren is on the river and is a few miles from one of the major bridges crossing the Potomac (US 301). If these monsters took out a bridge on 95 and wanted to cut off another route of interstate traffic. . .this might be a way.

My parents have a house in Tappahanock.

Rappahannock is an hour-and-a-half from DC. It's a hangout for the movers and shakers from DC. Greenspan got married there. The global parasites want it. I heard a year ago, that there was a plan to explode a nuke in the Shenandoah Mts. The timing is suspect.

HEADS UP, RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY, VA, YOU MAY BE ABOUT TO BECOME A WILDLANDS PROJECT Posted on 02/04/2002 7:14:34 AM PST by Ethan_Allen

Christians, have a Blessed Christmas. Although David Chilton believes Christ was born on September 11, 3 (or4?) BC ('Days of Vengeance', p. 328-329), another pastor, Arnold Murray, analyzes that He was conceived on December 25. I think they are both right, because the occult/Satan always try to counterfeit Christ. Light came into the world, but those who preferred death, chose darkness. Pagans, may Saturnalia hold a surprise for you.

In 1608, this area was first visited by Captain John Smith. The area was inhabited by Native Americans and when Captain Smith attepted to land here he was fiercely driven back to his ship. It was a Native American village and so he gave both the river and the village Native American names. The river became the Rappahannock, which meant "rise and fall" of water, and the village became Tappahannock, which means "town on the rise and fall of water". In the mid 1600's, a trading post was established by Jacob Hobbs. For a few years the area was known as Hobb's His Hole and later as New Plymouth. Eventually, the original name was returned in 1705. On and around the water still remain thirteen homes and buildings from these early days of Tappahannock, including 3 of the school buildings

If the mohammedans only have a small amout of chem/bio, I would think going after a small town would be the way to go. Killing 500 in a major metropolitan area does not have the same psychological effect as wiping out an entire community of 500 does.

A dirty bomb on the other hand is a different animal as its use will have greatest effect in a major metropolitan area.

Rappahannock County is also about an hour from Lake Anna, the location of a Nuclear Power plant in Northern VA. Does anyone know if the Rappahannock River flows into Lake Anna?

Lake Anna is formed by an impoundment of the North Anna River, part of the York River watershed, not the Rappahannock.

Heh. Most Arabs likely don't know what toilet paper is. They have...er...other ways of dealing with hygiene than Westerners.

Seriously, though, I posted a question on FR, asking what could possibly be a target in Rappahannock when this warning came out about a week ago. Someone answered that there's a nuclear power plant at Lake Anna in Rappahannock County.
