This morning it will be hard to top this quote from last night fro Secretary Veneman:

"It just slaughters a few animals, and our current understanding, and again it's very preliminary, is that that product did go to further processing plants. But again, one thing that is important to remember is that muscle cuts of meats have almost no risk. In fact, as far as the science is concerned, I know of no science to show that you can transmit BSE from muscle cuts of meat."

http://www.usda.gov/news/releases/2003/12/0433.htm

The above quote is very close to Tommy Thompson's comment that Bob Stevens was an avid outdoorsman and may have contracted anthrax by drinking stream water.

It's true. Bone, marrow, nerve tissue, brain... Those are the parts you have to worry about.

I sit calm and reassured until some government bureaucrat tells me everything is fine and I should be calm and reassured. Then I panic.

It doesn't matter to our family since we gave up on beef two years ago. Once again, the bottom line - in this case feeding cattle animal remains - dictated the consequences and I am not confident in the tracking system of our nation to remove every piece of tainted meat.

Prions kill.

My WMP connection is very shaky but so far I've heard that Canada is offering assistance.

Am I hearing that right, the cow was not "Bred" on the farm it was found, but that it was in fact bought from another Farm and the USDA is having a hard time tracing this?

Definitely in the same range. But as with anything else regarding your health and safety--yer on yer own, folks!

"I think they say she was purchased in Oct 2001.

If that is the case, the herd/farm this cow originally came from has had a minimum of two years to spead the disease throughout the beef eating population. Which pretty much shows that the USDA's method of certification is pretty d*mn sloppy.

Measures have been in place to ensure safety... i.e. no feeding of cow protein back to cows.

Yep. Just gotta wonder though...am I incubating?!

That 401k plan is looking less and less necessary.

No, but I know another name that will do just as well, "Kentucky Fried Chicken" :)
