French television station LCI reported that U.S. authorities believed members of Al Qaeda may have been planning to board the planes."

That's because the French announced the cancellations in advance. Do the French actually believe the terrorists don't listen to the radio or where they just tipping them off?

I suspect half the "alarming chatter" originates right here in the good ol' US of A, and is generated by some of the left wing websites. Thanks to the almost instant communication we now enjoy, it gets picked up in the Middle East, translated into Urdu, or Farsi, or Arabic,and passed around there:getting pumped up each time it gets passed on.

Before you know it, NSA, etc. pick up these wildly inflated stories,translate them (laboriously) into English,and rush,ashen-faced into their bosses' offices.

So, the terrorists' off the cuff plan is to hop a plane from Paris to LA and crash it into a brightly lighted 7-11 on the strip that cousin Ali owns? Atta & Co. lived here for months/years in order to work out their plan. What makes DHS think the next 911 won't come from some group already living and working amongst us?

After September 11, I understand the known cells are being monitored so heavily they can't go to the bathroom without U.S. government knowing about it. That is one reason that there has not been attacks. Needless to say there are other cells formed or forming coming in thru Canada or Mexico.

Air France? Las Vegas? Do you suppose the French were turning a blind eye toward this because Las Vegas has its own Eiffel Tower? We really don't need them, or theirs.

As specifically posted on this website on 8 December 2003 (17 days ago) and well documented at www.stevequayle.com (Terror Alert Update), data and intelligence identified New York, Washington, DC and Las Vegas as specific targets of the new al Qaeda plot. Within the past 24 hours, at least six flights originating from Paris destined for the US were grounded, with at least one of those flights intended to strike a major hotel complex in Las Vegas. Most recent information all but confirms that the hijackers were tipped off by French Intelligence officials despite advisories issued by US Intelligence agencies to await specific orders so that the potential hijackers could be apprehended.

This update appears on the Northeast Intelligence Network page of the Homeland Security website. While I realize that legally and/or politically, it's not as simple as this, but doesn't this basically amount to the French aiding terrorists? (Rhetorical question). At the very least, it sends a very disturbing message - their willingness to do so. Obviously the French have a stick in a not so pleasant place concerning the US so much so that they really don't care whether nor how many people die. Meanwhile, the Fox news channel keeps running tickers reporting that the French cancelled flights to the US. How very misleading considering all the US had to do was deny the French permission to land in US territory.

Not by me. There are just too many indications that this is bluster, IMHO. By putting us on alert they have made it much more difficult on themselves to pull off an organized attack. We may get another lone nutcase or something, but that's all. They respect us now, and if they have any sense at all, they will fear consequences which they had every right to NOT fear on 9-11.

I don't believe that they (AQ and Friends) respect us. Their capabilities have been altered since we booted them from Afghanistan, they have reorganized at this point. Their hits throughout the Middle East in the past months have let their "friends" (Arab Leaders) know that if they open arms to America, they are a target as well. I do not think they fear any consequences, in fact; I believe that they would be thrilled if we responded with the most force possible. They are looking for a chain of events to trigger a worldwide caliphate and they know that the battle has just begun.

This "averted" disaster was a victory, but let's hold off the celebration just a minute.
