There's worse places to be stranded. There's . . . uh . . . Ontario after midnight when you are diverted from LAX.

Flight 645 to Chicago was delayed over 90 minutes before being allowed to depart without the family, said Daniel Maynard, a spokesman for the airport's operator, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey."

Indianapolis, Dec. 26 (AP) - An American Airlines jet was evacuated and searched Friday after a suspicious-looking device was discovered as the plane prepared to land.

Flight 1102 from Chicago to Indianapolis landed safely shortly before 2 p.m. and remained on a holding ramp in the middle of the airfield. Police and bomb-sniffing dogs boarded the plane and determined that the device contained no explosives, American Airlines spokesman Carlo Bertolini said.

Airline officials said the device was found during the approach to Indianapolis and was taken to the back of the Super 80 aircraft.

The 56 passengers and five crew members used an emergency slide to evacuate because stairs brought to the plane did not fit. No one was injured.

Passengers were being questioned by authorities, airport spokesman Dennis Rosebrough said.

"Airline officials said the device was found during the approach to Indianapolis."

I would guess something left in the lavatory and discovered by a flight attendant, from that description.
