"To believe that France would do anything that could help another tragedy is, for me, foolish."

Are you denying the possibility that perhaps a certain level of French incompetence or petulance could have horrible but unintended consequences...

Have you provided a logical explanation of why the French alerted potential terrorists by ANNOUNCEING U.S. suspicions of a plot involving specific Air France flights....

In my opinion, the French and French defenders should complain less about predictable American insults and put far more effort and action into an attempt to convince us that the French are RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY allies -- and NOT aligned with anything or anyone that means us harm...

The French have become somewhat like the Democrat party.. Their only chance at power or status - is dependent on the U.S. being enmeshed in turmoil...

The French blew it big time...
It will be decades before they are allowed out of the penalty box...

You asked (naively) "But do you really think that french intelligence would be ready to help AQ?" Uh, did you miss the months leading up to the present occupation of Iraq? The damn frogs DID assist the terrorists, they DID seek to undermine efforts to force Iraq to disarm! Naive? Naw, you're an agitprop for the froglegs.

"Do you think the french are that stupid as to release potential terrorists?

They questioned, and released, Richard Reid, which allowed him to continue on his merry way to the USA wearing a quite interesting pair of tennis shoes.

Yes.
Just like those new French missiles in Iran.

I will give you this: Last year (April) there was way too large man 6' plus, posing as a flight attendant on Air France (Paris-Brussles-NY)and couldn't maneuver the cart and pour a drink if his life depended on it (and did not stink). He was scanning the passengers quite thoroughly. Obviously an air marshall.

Washington believed that the longer publicity could have been avoided, "the greater the chance to catch anybody else who was suspected of being involved,"

Does anyone really believe that the French want to see more of their nationals on trial in the U.S. like Zacharias Moussaoui? The last thing Chirac wants to do is further agitate the 5 million Muslims infesting his country.

To believe that France would do anything that could help another tragedy is, for me, foolish.

Would very publicly cancelling flights for security reasons up to 2 days before departure prevent terrorists from showing up for the flight? I would say so. That means that french action prevented any possible apprehensions, at the very least from the later flights, if not the earlier. Sedning agents onto a plane whose flight was publicly cancelled two days earlier is not how to catch terrorists. Even your beloved france would know this. Those are not the actions of an ally.

First of all it is not my beloved France.
Second of all they sent agents on the 21st, 2 day BEFORE the cancellations.

What would be a better way to describe your unnaturally pro-frog position despite reality to the countrary?

Second of all they sent agents on the 21st, 2 day BEFORE the cancellations.

So, it is your position that the french did not frog up the operation? That all the potential terrorists were met at the airplane by agents? That the terrorists missed the two days advanced notice france so genially gave them? You could make the arguement that it was an accident, that they did not deliberately subvert the war on terror. But I don't think they are dumb, just malicious.

The only thing I could come up with that would explain it was that the French knew about 9/11 and purposely didn't alert us, or even worse, participated in the planning.

Either that or they participated/assisted with the anthrax blackmailing. We got hit with a one two punch. Plane attacks on 9/11 followed with a credible threat not to attack back because, as the blackmail itself stated 'We have this Anthrax, You cannot stop US'

in the above mentioned countries.
