The Delaware registration confers certain tax advantages. Look at a mid-siized and up pleasure boat in Miami, or Martha's Vineyard, or Long Beach -- chances are 50-50 it claims to be homeported in Wilmington (as another FReeper has pointed out).

Thanks for the ping. I heard this last night, and knew it was a Just Damn story. In the 80s, when I lived on the East Coast, a few of us did a Statue of Liberty Harbor tour, which was cool ... if you contacted ATC! D'OH!
