The Democratic Party lament after it loses the presidential election next year may be: "Wait 'Til Last Year."

In 2003, the Democrats racked up an impressive series of gains: President Bush's failed prediction that WMDs would be found in Iraq; the daily drip of deaths in Baghdad; the economy stalled and sank; and the president made no progress in passing his domestic agenda.

>>So what have the Democrats got left to run on?

They'll find things. With a socialism/pascifism agenda, there's a gazillion things - starting with universal health care. There's also continuation of what they've been doing - criticizing Bush. And there's also the Hillary angle. She can come strolling in around California primary time and still get the nomination. (in case she doesn't - we need to groom somebody to run against her (other than Arnold).

What a loser! He doesn't realize the biggest issue of our times has just been brought to the fore: mad cow disease.

Dick has been wrong about a bunch of things in the past couple years. Hillary's senate run and Arnold's win come to mind.

However, he is right about one thing:

The final factor that will hurt Mr. Dean is his support of gay civil unions.

And don't give me this crap that there is a difference - its gay marraige to most of us.

Nope.

They already lost that one as an issue, already already.

I hear she's decided to sit out her six years as jnr seator from ny -- and not to run in 2004.

These are Demonrat GAINS: "deaths in Baghdad, economy stalled and sank", etc. ???

If these are Demonrat gains, whose side are they on? Certainly not America's.

While they are already using mad cow, blaming it on Bush, the cow has been traced, downer cows will no longer be used for food.We have to see if this is widespread in cows acquired from Canada or confined to this area.

We had beef for dinner. The sad part is how this will affect the ranchers.

I'm normally not too jazzed by Morris' columns, given his track record, but I'm keeping one quote for my new tagline:

Mr. Dean is God's reward to Mr. Bush for doing the right thing in the war on terror.

Dick Morris a fascinating read, not always right, but perceptive as always.

I feel the same way about him. I did like his book though. Off With Their Heads is a great read.

Finally, there is the Howard Dean factor. Mr. Dean is God's reward to Mr. Bush for doing the right thing in the war on terror. His consistent opposition to the War in Iraq makes him the beau ideal of the militant Democratic left. But his strong position on this issue makes him unacceptable to the vast bulk of voters, particularly if American casualties are winding down.

Add Safire's prediction in today's Times that Dean will lose to Gephardt in Iowa and do worse than expected in New Hampshire, thus lengthening the race (and exposing his program flaws and gaffes on tax cuts, race, guns, God and gays over a longer period for all to see). Plus if his jobs program includes Kyoto Protocol and more giveaways to trial lawyers, Dean could easily remove many millions of jobs from our burgeoning economy.

Morris must be talking about the American economy in an alternate universe somewhere.

Don't forget last night's FR raid on the democrat conference call. Dean stated that he would recind every one of Bush's EO's and invest in wind power. It'll be interesting to (a) see if this makes the press, and (b) how it is spun.

If they had half a brain - and they don't - they would take him to task over illegal aliens. But then Democrats are total idiots. Republicans are just inept.
