An Albuquerque couple returned home from vacation Tuesday to find a dead man dangling from an air duct in their house.
Investigators believe that the man, who appeared to be in his 70's, used a shovel and pick ax to break open the air-conditioning unit on the roof of the house.
Police suspect that suspected burglar attempted to climb into the broken air duct and got stuck. It is unclear what caused his death or how long he had been hanging there.
Police also found a suspicious briefcase in the yard next to the home. The briefcase was investigated and found to be safe.
The homeowners, who were away from home for nearly a week, knew that something was amiss when they entered their home and found that is was cold. When they checked on the heater, they found the man hanging from the air duct.

No wonder he never made it to my house!

This is all the Bush Administration's fault. Under Clinton burlars could retire at 65. Now they have to keep working to pay their prescription drug bills. </sarcasm>

Twenty-five years ago we learned that our stores' roof A/C ducts were the preferred means of entry for burglars using rope ladders, because they can bypass the perimeter alarms. Since then, we always weld rebars on 6" centers in the openings, and we've stopped having this problem.

Wouldn't it have been easier just to break out a window?
