Three people have been arrested in connection with an attempt to kill a senior Saudi Arabian intelligence officer.

The Brigade of the Two Holy Mosques, a radical Islamic group linked to al-Qa'eda, posted a statement on several Islamist websites giving warning that the attack was part of a plan to kill "the infidel imams and soldiers of tyranny".

Lt Col Ibrahim al-Dhaleh, a senior member of the Mabahith, the Saudi equivalent of the FBI, escaped unharmed on Monday when a bomb was thrown from a moving car into his unoccupied Lexus parked in Riyadh.

Diplomats said the attack, which followed a similar one three weeks ago, was a change of tactic by the terrorists who are seeking to destabilise the ruling family and strike at their security apparatus.

Meanwhile, Mansour Mohammed Ahmed Faqih, one of 26 people wanted over suicide attacks on residential compounds in Riyadh has surrendered to police, newspapers said yesterday.

So now they are going after the "moderate" (for SA) Imams too. Actually, that's pretty good news because in order to remain alive, these Imams will have to come down hard on these guys. That's the best way to get the people to turn them in.
