You're right, people need to realize that the term nazi has now come to mean not only the National Socialist party that ruled Germany for those years but also any extremely strict rule, law or person. Hence the Soup Nazi of Seinfeld or the 'anti-smoking nazis or the term 'feminazi'.
Of course this does not mean that is okay to compare Bush with Hitler or the other stupid comparisons they are making at moveon.org or Democratic Underground.
