School Reform
The U-46 Question: Which are Better, Small or Large School Districts?
A group of concerned citizens have organized "Better Schools for All" with the aim of breaking up Elgin (IL) based school district U-46 into smaller, more responsive and more effective school districts. Follow this link to a statement from FTN and links to some of the research compiled by the citizens of "Better Schools For All."
It is certainly no surprise that the Elgin teachers union is opposed to the break up. Teacher unions are famous for standing in the way of any institutional reform that might negatively impact upon their political power. In fact their position paper makes for entertaining reading in that its both poorly written and charges that vested interests skew research evidence. As if the teachers union is not a vested interest!

The single biggest factor in a child's success is parental involvement. But involvement often means parents volunteering. When volunteers do the work as well as teachers it is hard for the highly paid professionals to justify the need for high wages.

Hey! this
www.thechampion.org has some great links to teacher salaries and comparison of teacher salaries and student performance. In my daughter's district:
$800 cost per student for Math, Science, English
$1,000 cost per student for Sex Ed
$1,150 cost per student for Drivers Ed.
Best predicters of safe student drivers are
1) Good grades in Math, Science, English
2) Doing the homework
3) Good attendance
Drivers Ed? Irrelevant!

Which are Better, Small or Large School Districts?
When did you stop beating your wife?
The headline asks the wrong question. The answer to the correct question is private schools.
End government schools and free American children from intellectual tyranny..

What about Food Districts? Everyone should be taxed, and the resulting fund could be spent EQUALLY on all children, and adults, to ensure that No Child Is Left Behind. Parents often do not know the best things for their children to eat. We must end dietary inequality! To those who say that government should not manage people's diet, we say: What's the matter with you? Are you against FOOD? Are you against children eating? Why do you want our children to starve? Parents should be INVOLVED in their children's eating, but that means that parents need to get involved in their local Food District!

How about the first thing yhou do is abolish the federal Dept. of education.
Turn education back to the states where it and damn near every other govt. function belongs.
I think the federal govt. is supposed to be there simply for the common defense?
