[history]
Injuries to adults and children playing paintball have tripled in recent years, including eye damage causing lasting vision loss, a study found.
From 1997 to 2000, paintball-related injuries nationwide climbed from 926 to 2,780, with up to a third occurring in children younger than 15, according to the study, which analyzed injury data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Yeah, and don't wash your hair with gasoline either. All we need in this country is another potful of morons looking for a cause.

"It's only fun until somebody loses an eye."
I always preferred "it's fun and games until somebody loses and eye...then it's a sport!"

Many injuries occur because players are not wearing goggles or face masks, said researcher Dr. David Listman of St. Barnabas Hospital in New York. No %!#@ Sherlock.
Doctors should be aware of the dangers and lobby for restrictions in paintball-equipment sales to minors, Listman said.
Here we go again with the ninnies. Hmmmm, I wonder why paintball is going under attack now.....maybe cause many people in paintball like GUNS???

Lets start getting serious about safety.
Many more people die in cars. We should ban cars.
Lots of people slip and fall in the bathtub and end up crippled or dead.Lets get rid of the bathtubs.
I know some will say "bathtubs don't kill people, gravity kills people, but the sad truth is that if there were no bathtubs, many people would still be alive.
Hundreds of people choke to death on unchewed food every year.I think we need a law that all food will be pureed before intake and

According to
Action Pursuit Games magazine, the great sport of paintball has over 8.7 million participants. In their latest report, American Sports Data (a Hartsdale, NY-based firm specializing in sports and fitness research) claims a rate of 0.2 injuries per 1000 exposures. In other words, it would take 500 years for an average player to get injured playing paintball.
I am certain that almost all injuries are due to dumb kids playing "outlaw" games in "unofficial" areas like woodlands--not privately owned organized fields. They aren't playing safely, and they aren't playing smart. And hopefully, after suffering a careless injury, they never play again!!!

It would be interesting to learn if many grunts that have been in real firefights - participate in this "game"...
Considered it once - to join some younger family members in a very realistic and interesting forest scenario...
I found it too disturbing...and quit...
