Contact Tom Tancredo (R-Co), Chirman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus (HIRC). He's one of the few elected republicans with his head on straight. Here's their platform:

Rep. Tom Tancredo’s Four-Point Plan for Immigration Control

The United States has lost control over its immigration policy. Over one million persons enter our nation illegally each year and we have antiquated and error-prone systems for knowing who our legal visitors are and for enforcing their visa time limits. Every poll shows that over 75% of citizens support border security and strict enforcement of our immigration laws. They want our immigration policies fixed. Here is my four-point plan for achieving control of our borders and enforcing sensible immigration policies.

1. Secure our Nation’s Borders

Increase Border Patrol manpower from the present 11,500 to 20,000 (HR 3534). Use the U.S. Military until the Border Patrol reaches that manpower level (HR 277). Accelerate the use of new technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to identify and help apprehend smugglers and trespassers. Double the capacity of the detention centers for apprehended trespassers. End the “catch and release” policy by instituting fines and jail time for repeat offenders. Require stiff prison sentences for convicted “coyotes” and felons who return to the U.S. after deportation. Accelerate the implementation of the “USVISIT” biometric identifier program for all foreign nationals entering the country through our ports of entry. 2. Establish a Genuine Guest Worker Program

Enact a genuine Guest Worker Bill (HR 3534) to allow any foreign national to enter the US legally to work for up to one year in a job that cannot be filled by a citizen. Require employers to advertise all jobs on an internet bulletin board and for two weeks before hiring a Guest Worker. Require illegal aliens already in the U.S. to first return home and apply for jobs through the legal processes. 3. Improve “Interior Enforcement” of Immigration Laws

Provide adequate resources to the “Detention and Removal” branch of the Bureau of Customs and Immigration Enforcement (BICE) to allow apprehension and removal of all criminal aliens. Enact the “CLEAR” Act (HR 2671) to give local law enforcement incentives and reimbursements for participating in immigration law enforcement. Establish stiff fines and tax penalties for employers who violate the law by hiring illegal aliens, and devote adequate resources to identify and prosecute those employers. 4. Remove Incentives for Illegal Immigration

Employers who hire illegal aliens should face stiff fines and tax penalties (see#2 above). Federal and State agencies should be prohibited from recognizing the Mexican Government’s “Matricula Consular” ID card. States that grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens should suffer loss of federal highway funds. Children born to illegal aliens should not be given citizenship status (HR 1567). Federal court rulings and other policies that require health and educational services to illegal aliens should be overturned. Amend Social Security Act to deny credits for wages earned in illegal employment or to self-employed engaged in illegal activities (HR 1631). Insist that the Government of Mexico extradite felony criminals who retreat into Mexico. Encourage the Government of Mexico to repeal its Dual Citizenship law.

Here's the other members of the caucus. What's funny is that there' only two democrats in the caucus and one of them's becoming a republican (Hall from Tx): Todd Akin (R-MO) Robert Aderholt (R-AL) Spencer Bachus (R-AL) J. Gresham Barrett (R-SC) Richard Baker (R-LA) Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) Joe Barton (R-TX) Michael Bilirakis (R-FL) John Boozman (R-AR) Allen Boyd (D-FL) Henry Brown (R-SC) Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) Michael Burgess (R-TX) Dan Burton (R-IN) Eric Cantor (R-VA) John Carter (R-TX) Mac Collins (R-GA) Barbara Cubin (R-WY) John Culberson (R-TX) JoAnn Davis (R-VA) Nathan Deal (R-GA) John Doolittle (R-CA) Jim Duncan (R-TN) J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) Phil Gingrey (R-GA) Virgil Goode (R-VA) Sam Graves (R-MO) Jim Greenwood (R-PA) Gil Gutknecht (R-MN) Ralph Hall (D-TX) Joel Hefley (R-CO) Wally Herger (R-CA) Henry Hyde (R-IL) Robin Hayes (R-NC) J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) Duncan Hunter (R-CA) Johnny Isakson (R-GA) Ernest Istook (R-OK) Chris John (D-LA) Sam Johnson (R-TX) Walter Jones (R-NC) Steve King (R-IA) Donald Manzullo (R-IL) Gary Miller (R-CA) Jeff Miller (R-FL) Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) Charlie Norwood (R-GA) Butch Otter (R-ID) Mike Pence (R-IN) Chip Pickering (R-MS) Jim Ramstad (R-MN) Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) Ed Royce (R-CA) Edward Schrock (R-VA) Pete Sessions (R-TX) John Shadegg (R-AZ) Michael Simpson (R-ID) Lamar Smith (R-TX) Nick Smith (R-MI) Cliff Stearns (R-FL) John Sullivan (R-OK) Tom Tancredo (R-CO) Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) Fred Upton (R-MI) David Vitter (R-LA) Zach Wamp (R-TN) Dave Weldon (R-FL) Roger Wicker (R-MS)

Remember that Carl Rove is going to withdraw all republican money from Tom also. Make a donation and urge him to run for president in 2004, campaigning against the Bush immigration amnesty program. He would win hands down.

He and the other Republicans mentioned in this article are the only true Americans left in the Republican party.

I can't beleive you perpetuate the lie that this is an "amnesty" plan. Well people also have bought the Brooklyn Bridge, so I am not surprised.

Rewarding people who came over here illegally, ie:breaking the laws of the United States of America is amnesty. We obviously can't catch them to pardon them. /sarcasm.

I read through the main story on the link you posted, and for once the Dems have a point. This is only going to help big business secure cheap labor without being fined. Paging Walmart. This means reduced wages and job opportunities for citizens.

President Bush himself said that this legislation would take the heat off hotel maids, meat cutters, and landscapers. These are the jobs that Americans won't do? I beg your pardon, but I know citizens who would jump at those jobs.

Imo, President Bush is breaking the laws he swore to uphold. Ooops, the Constitution is a living document, and can be interpreted any ol' which way.

Here in Arizona, for the past two days I have been hearing interviews with the three Arizona traitors who put together this piece of trash legislation ... John McPain, Jeff Flake (appropriate name!) and Jim (I think it's Jim, he's not my district rep.) Kolbe. These three are proud of what they have done.

At least our other Senator, Jon Kyl and Representative J. D. Hayworth have "seen the light" and are voicing opposition to this.

It's the hot topic of local talk radio, we have varying degrees of reaction to this ... most of it against. A poll was done months ago, and over 70% of Arizonans reject any form of pandering to the illegal issue.

For us, there is a lot at stake.

At this point, it is a vote for the man will protect America the best to prevent such horrific terrorist attacks from happening again.

I, also, will vote for someone who will do the best to prevent these attacks from happening again. That someone will not be someone who allows anyone and everyone to simply walk across our borders.

I live here in Georgia, and they sent me literature last year wanting me to help the Ga. Republican Party. I sent
them a negative reply since they have failed to make
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION an issue in this state. Unfortunately,
our RINO Governor has made race relations a bigger issue
in our state. I am glad even more that I consider myself
an independent and not beholden to the demopublicans (or
republicrats, whichever you want to call them.)

I'm not libertarian. I'm a conservative constitutionalist not a company man.

With that said, Prez speech had a glaring logical falacy among many: Bush asks congress to pass this program so that we can secure our borders during WOT--words to that effect.

Let's follow Bush's logic. Bush refuses to secure borders since 9-11 (documented fact). Bush's cabinet refuse to secure support for states doing battle with illegal problem. Bush's admin. continues failed policy enacted since LAST AMNESTY letting borders bleed--a source of serious concern for national security.

Bush then propooses nullifying laws, bankrupting our welfare, medical, and education systems by giving 20-40 (not 10!) million ILLEGAL ALIENS (not PC undocumented workers) quasi-legal status FOR THE PURPOSE OF SECURING BORDERS THAT HAVE YET TO BE SECURED.

Logic of Bush is likened to a farmer looking the other way so that the FOX can enter the chicken coop, then giving the FOX legal status as "co-farmer" to protect the chickens from evil foxes.

Dane, my guess is that you are outed as the company man. Truth is Bush has revealed his true colors as a liberal but he also revealed his vulnerability for reelection, peeing off conservatives. Rove knows this so now we'll see posts on the FR and hear callers to Rush attacking conservative position as far-right extreme thus beating cons back into lockstep ala CFR, brain stem, sodomy legalization, medicare scripts.

BTW, conservatives have a plan that is is simple and very effective concerning illegal aliens. Pressure Bush and Rove's RINOS to obey the laws of the sovereign USA. Let's say that conservatives are just following Bush's amigo Fox; Fox secures his borders to the south with Mexican army.

"Opponents derided Bush's proposal as an "amnesty," a politically charged term that causes conservatives to recoil. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Calif.), a member of the House subcommittee that would consider the bill, said it "amounts to the forgiveness of a criminal act, no different under the law than printing hundred-dollar bills in your garage.""

Tancredo has at least one real ally.....my Congressman!!

Well said. I live in DC and work across the river from National Airport, which is not far from the Pentagon. Although I did not lose a loved one, I very well could have. My son watched the plane crash into the Pentagon. He was that close.

I for one don't agree with President Bush's idea on how to handle illegals. But, I know I must vote for him again if I want our military and the Iraqi people to win. We've gotten Hussein and his butcher regime. BUT, we still have to get BinLaden and the rest of the terrorist organizations. If we let a Democrat win, they will pull out our military (how may have you heard say they will continue to support our military stance?), all those lives sacrificed will be in vain, the Iraqi people will fall under another ethnic regime (maybe the remaining Taliban), our taxes will go back up (how many Dems have you heard say they will keep the tax cuts?), Dems are the ones complaining already that the new US policy on photo/fingerprinting foreign visitors is extreme (what they don't want to get a handle on who visits the US?), etc. Yes, many people don't want Bush to win. We will see all sorts of mud-slinging and smoke-n-mirrors and hear rumors and half-truths in the months ahead. After all, we only have 10 months.

I will find another way to disagree with the President on this issue. I think I will send off an email to the GOP to make my views known.

"What can he do ---- send out agents to do door to door searches looking for the illegals who didn't sign up with his guest worker program?"

That would be a good start - then we can round up the rest of the criminals & ship them home. Wire Pallidin, San Francisco. I would gladly sign up to be part of the posse sending these criminals home, if their home country doesn't want them give them a rowboat & some oars.

"TO THOSE WHO WON'T VOTE FOR PRESIDENT BUSH AGAIN:
A democrat will win this election."

A small price to pay for the message that will be sent - don't take the base for granted. A house built on a strong foundation will stand - but if you move the house from the foundation, be prepared for what follows.
