Other than perhaps the ease of fomenting MTV ignorance, the outrageousness of their crimes is the best thing the clintons have going for themselves....

I think I should have gone with my first instinct, grammatically speaking:

Other than perhaps the ease of fomenting MTV ignorance, the outrageousness of their crimes is the best thing the clintons have going for them....

"...the outrageousness of their crimes is the best thing the clintons have going for themselves..."

This is true as well. I saw this back in the opening phase of the krinton offensive when I would rave - to conservatives - about what criminal slime these people were. The worse their crimes became, the less interested were people who surely should have been. I cannot think of these scum as anything other than the class of Robert Mugabe, Jean Bedel-Bokassa (SP), Ida Amin, Pol Pot and a slew of other vermin that seize power and corrupt everything for as long as their gravy train stays on the tracks.

I believe the awakening (an inflated and inaccurate term until the krintons are in prison) came in 1994 when the national leadership of the Republicans seized the credit for what (I believe) was a genuinely grass-roots phenomenon. In that election, the press, the pundits and the Republicans all noted the changes and, unfortunately, most still didn't get the causal animus right. Prior to 1994, the frenzied nexus of anti-krinton activity were the anti-abortion, pro-gun and solidly conservative religious elements within the Reublican coalition. I choose the word coalition because this is what the 'conservative bloc' actually is and Republicans tread on thin ice if they assume too broadly that voting booth support can be equated to policy endorsement.

As usual, you are right about the MTV effect as well. The heinous nature of these swine and their historic crimes simply cannot be comprehended by people with 30 second attention spans. The flash of contrary images or ideas across the mind of an MTV RAT is just not enough to derail any consideration of evidence that might lead to a different world view. Reason has become a distillation of image and argument is nothing more than emotional conflict (bad vibes) from 'mean people that suck.' For hard-core RAT's, the nation provides all the succor they need to bind their wounds and keep going.

The trick seems to be revealing the fact that the emperor hasn't any clothes to those that will listen and ignoring the rest. Hopefully, at some point a critical mass can be achieved and the statistical power of popular anger will curtail the careers and mayhem of these monsters (perhaps for a generation). Stopping the kind of crime these people breath like air, with any permanence, is another matter altogether. The greatest crime of all (as you so clearly note elsewhere) is the tremendous lowering of the public threshold for tolerating corruption.

Arresting the slide is one thing. Bringing the country back from the brink is another question.
