the most important advantage Republicans have over Democrats is that Republicans can win elections without the black vote; Democrats can’t.

In the meantime, Republicans should continue to do what they do best: defending the country, supporting policies that foster economic growth, fighting for the sanctity of the family, the unborn and the dignity of the individual.

Once blacks are fed up with liberal lies, fear, resentment and mistrust (and being passed over for leadership positions), perhaps they’ll return to the party that set them free. And once they get a taste of real freedom, Democrats will be in trouble. Deep trouble.

Hear, hear!

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Memo to Republicans: Popping up in black church services and doing sound bites on urban radio won’t cut it.
I don't really think thats what republicans had in mind since popping up in black churches to stump seems to be strictly a dem phenomena.

Republicans will not to "continue" to fight for the "dignity of the individual" because they "discontinued" that fight long ago. They are just another big government party. Why should blacks vote for them since switching to the GOP would just be a matter of choosing a different chair on the Titanic?

Ignorance is bliss? You mean like the conservatives who will vote for Dubya because they actually think he agrees with them?

True ... the author should have written, "Republicans should return to doing what they do best".

Once there is a cadre of respected blacks within the community who can see through the Rats tactics and get the truth out there, the Rats will be finished. They won't take "our word" for it - even though it is the Republicans who have always told them the truth.

That same cadre of leaders - real LEADERS unlike Jesse and Al - will also be the ones who will strip away that constant shroud of victimhood from the entire community. Then Dr King's dream will come true. I certainly hope to see it soon.

Well, the won't because they can always depend on conservativs votes no matter what they do. Do you want evidence? Look at the Dubya worship which permeates this site.

This guy is full of it.

Reaching out is the right thing to do. You don't leave folks trapped in something like this when you can at least TRY to do something.

Then again, some who are supposedly "conservatives" have no problem doing stuff to drive these folks away.

Even a 5% shift would sink the democrat party.

No, a free thinking people who are able to make judgments ons several issues and enter into well thought out conclusions:o) There is no one issue that is a non starter for me, save maybe abortion. The big picture is what I'm talking about. I work with a fella, a black man who (God bless him) is the nicest guy in the world, just ordained a Rev. in his church, a millinery man, who is very much stuck in many of the "Blackness mindsets" refuses to even consider voting for any one other than a demonic-rat, in spite of his faith. I have had many conversations with this man and I conclude that it is "Head-in-sanditus" and sheer ignorance concerning contemporary issues.

No kidding. How are we supposed show blacks the harmful effects of liberalism if we don't "court the black vote." Talk about seeing a glass as half empty. Sheesh...if the dems need 90% of the black vote to win, why not try and get 15% of the black vote. It practically insures a Republican victory. Just waiting for the "change" to occur within the black community without any effort on the GOP's part is foolish.

Another great point of the paradox of the "bond" between blacks and white liberal politicians:

In New York State (and sadly repeated all over the union)- for the years 1997 through 1999 there were more dead black babies because of abortion than born.

In the year 2000 stats showed that there were scant 1824 more born black babies than aborted.

Source: http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/vital_statistics/index.htm

Black baby statistics for NY State:

2000 1999 1998 1997
Total live births: 54,498 55,393 54,112 54,948
Total abortions: 52,674 53,045 55,763 58,364

And blacks still believe white liberals are their friends.

I have seen this logic string on FR a few times:

-Children of liberal parents tend to grow up more liberal themselves.

-But liberals are much more likely to abort their childern.

-The overwhelming majority of abortions have been performed on potential liberal voters.

-Liberals are performing genocide on themselves.

I think a lot of his historical analysis is spot on. I agree with you that reaching out is the ONLY thing to do. Blacks aren't simply demographics, they're people. While the steps we've taken may not be enough, they're certainly not driving the black vote away.

Long distance campaigning is only going to go so far, though. When I was in sales, the rule was, if you want to make sales, see ten people belly to belly each day.

The Republicans have been talking about breaking the Dem hold on the black vote it seems like forever. But here in St. Louis we have the biannual roundup of African Americans by the Dem power brokers and the subsequent drive to the polls (on buses, taxis, rickshaws, anything that moves). I swear you think you're watching "Rawhide". Some of the cattle even belong to "that ghost herd in the sky". I'm sure the "head 'em up, move 'em out" theme is played out in every major city. Before they can change their brand, the Republicans must change their herd mentality which is driving them to destruction
