Katherine Harris Planning US Senate Run
Drudge ^

Watch your makeup compact, Hillary, Florida's Katherine Harris may have her eyes on the United States Senate, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

MORE

Against the apparent wishes of senior Bush strategists, Harris has decided in her heart and mind that she will seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat, sources close to Harris tell DRUDGE.

"She wants it, wants it badly!" a top source said Thursday. "She'll make her decision public within the next week."

The source, who has daily contact with Harris, cautions the congresswoman still could hold back and not make the run, in deference to the president and his brother's wishes.

Sarasota County's GOP chairman, Tramm Hudson, said he spoke to Harris Tuesday night and that she seemed ready to run, according to reports. Harris continues to be one of the party's top fund-raisers.

Elsewhere, Texas Senator Kay Hutchison has reportedly advised her republican counterpart to "Go for it!"

If elected Harris would join a select group of women ever to serve in the United States Senate.

MORE Harris advisers dispel any notion that bad blood still runs in Florida over Harris's role in the 2000 election drama.

"Look, Governor Bush handily won re-election last year, after 2000, and the state's voters did not punish him," notes one top Harris strategist who asked not to be named.

"And they will not punish Katherine. The senate campaign will be on the issues, and electing the best person to represent Florida in the senate!"

I realize this was in response to a remark you probably found to be innappropriate, but that aside, dismissing JohnnyZ's political analysis on this or other races as kids stuff is absurd. He knows his politics.

I think you're being ignorant. Johnnyz is a fraud. Not only was his analysis completely wrong and dismissed, he tried to scam us all by posting results for less than Harris's entire congressional district. That's not knowing your politics. That's being a fraud.

Apparently you feel you're entitled to your own set of facts.

So Jeb Bush didn't poll better in that district than Harris? The NRCC didn't step in? George W. Bush wasn't elected in 2000, it was 2002?

>>>That's funny, don't know how to get out of this one, do you?

LOL There is nothing for me to get out of, Luis. You can spin this anyway you like and reach any convoluted conclusion you want. I could care less. When you get yourself all twisted up like this, you're impossible to talk to and you make yourself look downright foolish.

However, we do agree on one thing. Bush`s plan is not a blanket amnesty proposal, like Reagan's 1986 amnesty deal was. But the Bush proposal is built on handing out pardons and granting illegal aliens, legal status through a backdoor amnesty process. Americans oppose the President's proposals in overwhelming numbers. Every poll I've seen in tha last two days, indicate opposition in the 65%-70% range and that includes the FreeRepublic poll.

No no, I am clearly a fraud. That will change. I have decided to re-evaluate all of my analysis in light of the discovery that the United States faked the moon landing. I'm fairly sure now that the numbers will show that the most electable candidate is (you guessed it!) Larry Klayman.

That's really, really stretching it, to say the least. Those other counties' populations are so small compared to the ones cited by JohnnyZ as to be statistically insignificant, but I'll total them up to make you happy and get back with you. Regardless, using that as a basis to discredit what he said is a less than stellar argument, to put it mildly.

Actually, I am finding evidence in my research as I speak to support the allegation you are a fraud. You said above the vote totals you gave included 91% of the votes cast. You were wrong. It's about 92%.

Yes, yes, I am evil, and I fraudulently asked CBG to add up his own midget counties if he wanted them, too.

Would you say that about the guy that does your bank statements, your mortgage or bags your groceries if he happened to forget to add a couple of things? LOL you Betty Castor fans are hysterical.

Failure to disclose all the facts relevant to a discussion + Larry Klayman = Johnnyz? You be the judge.

Alrighty, here's the breakdown of those counties:

Manatee*:

Harris (R) 53,371, 56%; Schneider (D) 41,903, 44%
Bush (R) 60,544, 60%; McBride (D) 40,083, 40%

*A small portion of Manatee county is not included in Harris's district, so the total votes cast in the governor's race are slightly higher. However, it is telling that with a smaller voter pool, Harris' opponent outpolled Bush's by nearly 2,000 votes here.

Sarasota:
Harris (R) 73,680, 54%; Schneider (D) 63,931, 46%
Bush (R) 82,318, 60%; McBride (D) 55,503, 40%

Desoto:
Harris (R) 3,955, 55%; Schneider (D) 3,187, 45%
Bush (R) 3,951, 55%; McBride (D) 3,212, 45%

Hardee:
Harris (R) 3,267, 62%; Schneider (D) 2,000, 38%
Bush (R) 3,145, 59%; McBride (D) 2,182, 41%

A very small part of Charlotte County is in Harris' district:

Harris (R) 4,755, 56%; Schneider (D) 3,718 44%

Countywide, Bush got 36,385 (63%) to McBride's 22,540 (37%). Can't really use this for a comparison, though, because the county as a whole may be more Republican than the portion in Harris' district.

Anyway, that's the data...you can double check my stats and math if you wish. http://election.dos.state.fl.us/

That data from Sarasota County especially concerns me. She would need to do better there in a statewide race than that to counter Broward and Palm Beach.

I don't remember PresReagan coming out in support of PresBush`s proposal and for good reason.

While I don't support President Bush's proposal myself, this isn't a strong argument against it, I must say.

Hardly comparable. C'mon, let's be serious about this. We can joke around on the ZOT threads.

I am serious. You and your pal Jonnyz foul up the thread trashing Katherine Harris with these expert numbers and then I find out that Jonnyz' been playing Broward County and fudging the election results. You think a candidate would go for lopping off the election results of 20% of their district? Then you ask me to respect Jonny for his political and election expertise? Ha. In my opinion he's a nothing who has infested this thread with bogus claims, unsupported theories and fraudulent numbers. Is this who you want to be in bed with here?

Thank you for posting the results. However, the statistics we compare (AGAIN) are President Bush's 2000 (%)results layed over Harris (%)results in her district in her 2002 race. We do this to disprove the theory that she would be a drag on GWB in 2004. Forget Jeb Bush, forget McBride. The trashing of Katherine Harris has been camoflaged behind this fear she'll harm GWB. It's not the case and the numbers bear that out.

Lying? You yourself looked at the results. How many counties did Jonnyz 'forget' to include?
