W'S IMMIGRATION PLAN: A NEW GOP

January 8, 2004 -- YESTERDAY, President Bush proposed a far-reaching, innovative and compassionate revision of American immigration policy. It instantly drew predictable howls from those who fear the economic and social costs of immigration, and inadvertently comic howls from Democrats and moans of disappointment from liberal Hispanics who reacted with barely concealed rage at the prospect of Bush making profound inroads into the 2004 Latino vote.

What was wrong with the old GOP? I liked it just fine. Comparing the party from a hundred years or so ago? How about when the Democrats cheered people who lynched Blacks for fun?

Who elected Bush to change the GOP to a new version?

New GOP - Conservatives with principles NOT welcome.

It looks like the Democrats are moving further Left and the GOP is filling some of the vacuum and are also appealing to moderate independent voters. Their new growing base will be broader and more moderate and they will have less reliance on conservatives. If that's their plan, it looks like it might work, or it could backfire. The vast majority of votes seem to be in the middle.

The two parties have long since blurred into one. And that one is hostile to our free society. The evidence is building and building, and eventually, even the most airey-fairey bot will have to recognize the fact.

The GOP has always been centrist in nature, but does move right when it needs to.

The old version was pretty left of center and the Dem's were further right back then.

OK, I get it now. First, we outsource all the knowledge work to India, Russia, and Vietnam. Since there are some jobs that can't be outsourced (yardwork, plumbing, construction), we legalize immigration of workers from Mexico, Central America, and South America. Then, since all the work is taken care of, U.S. citizens can go on extended vacation.

We'll call it the Citizen's-Right-Not-to-Work Act. Included in this will be generous welfare payments for citizens (a.k.a. voters), paid for by taxes on the people who actually work.
