Sharpton: Clinton 'Killed the Democratic Party'

The Democratic Party is dead, presidential candidate Rev. Al Sharpton said Thursday. And it's Bill Clinton's fault.

Launching into a tirade against Democratic centrists during an interview on Washington, D.C. TV station WJLA, Sharpton complained that's it's been all downhill for Democrats since Mr. Clinton took over ten years ago.

"Bill Clinton won, the party didn't," railed the radical reverend. "And Bill Clinton may not have won if it had not been for Perot."

"That is my point - centrism killed this party," he insisted. "We didn't regain the Congress in 1998. . . In 2000 we lost it all. In 2002 we were demolished, we were demolished. We lost everything as a party."

Sharpton said Democrats certainly couldn't do any worse if they nominated him for president, since the party seems to be flat-lining already.

"People are saying, 'Will Sharpton, the Progressive, kill the party?' The party's dead. I've come to help start the resurrection," he announced.

Though Sharpton's comments are among the most politically explosive uttered during the presidential campaign so far - with the exception of radio host Rush Limbaugh, who played the Sharpton audio during his Friday broadcast - the reverend's outburst has gone unreported.

Well, I think that clinton did kill the party, but not because he was a centrist.

Probably Al Sharpton knows that. But he's fishing for the left wing vote now, which is what he needs in the primaries.

Sharpton's ambition is to fill in the slot held by Jesse Jackson. Namely, to run once for the presidency as a spoiler, and then to get paid huge sums every year by the Democrats not to run for the presidency again. It also entitles him to blackmail corporations over affirmative action. There's only room for one black to hold that special and very lucrative position, and Jesse's hold on it has slipped, since he still hasn't recovered from his women troubles.

Sharpton is the smartest guy they've got.

You say that as a joke, but have you watched the Democratic primaries. Even though he is left of Dean, Sharpton continually appears to be the most reasonable and grounded candidate in the Democrat field. Wow.

Actually, he's very close to making a very good point. Just because leftism is wrong, doesn't mean you can't build a powerful party with it. When the Democrats left their leftism behind, they lost their soul.

Where Sharpton is wrong is not that the D's left for Centrism, but because they left for Clinton.

Clinton killed the Democrat party because he used it as a form of masturbation -- politics, like everything he does, is a means for self-gratification.

The democrats, sensing a winner, were happy to tag along. They realized only too late that Clinton sees politics as an extension of his sex life, and in that they were no different from Monica Lewinsky.

Bill Clintoon came to the center/gave up his principles/worked with Republicans by 1.)signing off on welfare reform and 2.)Allowing Capital Gains Tax Cuts, ( and he only did that for his "Legacy") which iare 2 issues 100% contrary to what hellish Liberals like yourself want for the American people. Smart American citizens in general, know that Liberals stand for nothing and want nothing more than to other than to preserve and protect the welfare-regulatory state status quo at all costs. Shartpon's come after the Clintons a few times before.....he's said almost the same stuff at some of the earlier debates, remember, and a while ago, he complained that Slick's "office" in Harlem was a big crock, because he's never there....Sharpton's smart, and I look for hime to drop out and endorse one of the other candidates soon...probably Deean, when he can extract the best deal for himself....
