Was that cartoon from the Clinton Presidency or the Bush Presidency? I can't tell.

Because, we've got a huge border with Mexico. Keeping that border sealed tight will always be a problem and very expensive. Fighting the problem at the root cause helps. Oh we need to beef up our border security for the time being, but it won't help forever, we need to boost Mexico's economy and put the squeeze on Vicente Fox to get a permanent solution.
America would do well to concentrate on its own problems for a while. We are more interested in securing the borders of Iraq than our own. We are more interested in providing jobs for Mexico, India, and China than for Americans. We lecture countries about economic policy while we are totally unable to live within our own budget. And we talk about democracy while we enforce two party elections funded almost entirely by corporate donations at the national level.

Sales of large sailboats suitable for living aboard hit record highs, trend not seen abating.
Yes, the haves are definitely happier. Their incomes are still rising. They will continue to purchase toys until the rug is pulled from under them, just like it was the techies, the service sector and the blue collar people. Everybody thinks it can't happen to them.
