gather = gathering.
Forgot all about that one, but you are 100% correct.
Uhhh... these are military weapons
The theory and practice of it was this:Uhhh... these are military weaponsFirst, you approach a German sentry with your little pistol hidden in your coat pocket and, with Academy-award sincerity, ask him for a light for your cigarette (or the time the train leaves for Paris, or if he wants to buy some non-army-issue food or a half- hour with your "sister"). When he smiles and casts a nervous glance down the street to see where his Sergeant is at, you blow his brains out with your first and only shot, then take his rifle and ammunition. Your next few minutes are occupied with "getting out of Dodge," for such critters generally go around in packs. After that (assuming you evade your late benefactor's friends) you keep the rifle and hand your little pistol to a fellow Resistance fighter so they can go get their own rifle.
Or maybe you then use your rifle to get a submachine gun from the Sergeant when he comes running. Perhaps you get very lucky and pickup a light machine gun, two boxes of ammunition and a haversack of hand grenades. With two of the grenades and the expenditure of a half-a-box of ammunition at a hasty roadblock the next night, you and your friends get a truck full of arms and ammunition. (Some of the cargo is sticky with "Boche" blood, but you don't mind terribly.)
Pretty soon you've got the best armed little maquis unit in your part of France, all from that cheap little pistol and the guts to use it. (One wonders if the current political elite's opposition to so-called "Saturday Night Specials" doesn't come from some adopted racial memory of previous failed tyrants. Even cheap little pistols are a threat to oppressive regimes.)
They called the pistol the "Liberator." Not a bad name, all in all.
So were these:
I am considering a 9mm pistol and carbine combination to augment my .44mag.
Very appropriate military use and logical order of assencion.
As sneakypete says...while they're at it, they better ban the non-military ice picks too, because you can use that to get a handgun or a rifle if you have the will.
Do not forget that it was Geeral Clark who approved the use of his tanks at Waco and that is when his star began its meteoric rise.

What are your thoughts on a good .308 rifle?
I have an AR-15, and am considering getting an AR-10 to keep the same manual of arms. ARMS is supposed to come out with an SIR later this year that free floats the AR-10 barrel, so I'm considering getting that, along with a variable Leopuld scope.
He's an ass-kicker ain't he?
Humble, but effective if properly used.
In particular: at night, and likely, often in use with a sound suppressor. By daytime, the suppressed .22 rifle with a quality optical sight offering somewhat more precise bullet placement may be a slightly better choice. But the real expert will likely be able to make excellent use of either tool.
That said, I really expect the cutdown 12-gauge shotgun and the cutdown .22 semiauto rifle to be among the most common effective weapons used and encountered in the troubles likely to be coming to pass in our common future.
I also use a Savage .308 with a tactical barrell for hunting.
As most know there are folks, active, former and retired that have no need of a firearm at all for such events. So that said I pray such a series of events never occurs in our country.
