Even the dismissed Clinton aides have not turned this way on their former boss. Clinton aides didn't get dismissed, they got silenced. lol

Well, I heard O'Neill handed over something like 19,000 pages of docs. If that number's accurate, who in Hades keeps a paper trail like that? And for what? Either O'Neill had it in for the WH for a longer than we thought, long enough to collect all this stuff, or someone else is helping him out. If that's true, someone else's hind end ought to be in the dock right along with O'Neill's.

Don't know much about classified docs and such, but if these documents were for internal use only, classified or not, then isn't O'Neill breaking some oath of office?

Tinfoil on: I wonder if O'Neill has made a deal with the Devil and WANTS all those records investigated. That way he gets them out to "embarass" Bush and keep the White House on the defensive in 2004. More than that backstabber is behind all this. I don't think it will work though.

Do you have a time line on O'Neill's tenure as Treasury Secretary?

I heard on FOX that one of the documents was classified "secret" and O'Neill gave a copy of it to Suskind. This is not a good move on O'Neill's part.
This guy could find himself in a whole pile of trouble with the more than the Treasury dept. I'd say the NSA (documents re war); CIA; FBI; Secret Service .. Whoa! This is going to be a firestorm.
Rich Lowry was on FOX & Friends and he said O'Neill is in hot water over those documents and Suskind should have checked out the consequences of putting them in print. And .. Lowry did not agree with O'Neill about anything. Since I'm reading Rich's book .. I would side with Rich's opinion.

I find it very interesting that this broke on CNBC (if they did indeed get the scoop). Nobody in the business world much cared for O'Neill as Treasury Secretary from the beginning. They thought he had a very reckless mouth, which was not a good trait in a man who could cause markets to move negatively just by making a statement, and were openly questioning his suitability for the position long before Bush canned him.
So perhaps he's got a lot of business people rooting for his downfall who aren't even Republicans.

Did NSC leaks to the press decrease after O'Neill left? Looking for a time line for his TS tenure.

Treasury seeks probe of document used in O'Neill book By
Matt Andrejczak
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- The Treasury Department wants to determine if a secret document used in conjunction with book featuring former Treasury chief Paul O'Neill violated disclosure laws. "As a result of the segment on CBS's '60 Minutes', we referred this today to the Office of the Inspector General," Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols said, referring to a document marked "secret," and shown on the program Sunday. The network interviewed O'Neill as part of a promotion for the book, "The Price of Loyalty," by former Wall Street Journal reporter Ron Suskind. Suskind said he conducted extensive interviews with a number of administration officials, including O'Neill, whom Suskind said provided 19,000 documents to the author to describe the inner workings of the Bush White House.
