Thanks. You answered the question thouroughly. The response from my seat neighbor on the plane was that vegetable fertilizer is often made with animal byproducts.

I believe that bone and blood meal are even approved for use in the production of certified organic produce.

Wonder what the vegans think of that?

And many vegetables are sprayed with a solution that does not rinse off- apparently you need to wash veggies with mild detergent before eating them. ( No more "sampling" of grapes in the grocery store...)
