WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court, in an Illinois case watched anxiously by law enforcement agencies across America, held Tuesday that police may set up roadblocks to collect tips about unsolved crimes.

In a 6-3 decision, the justices found roadblocks seeking such information do not violate the privacy rights of motorists.

It makes me wonder just how effective roadblocks are at gathering information about a hit and run driver. Don't cars have radios, and don't radio stations report the news and send out alerts?

It seems like any ineffectual technique that is claimed to address an arguably serious problem is justified.

Funny, but recently my wife was hit-and-run. She followed the driver, who admitted to being drunk, blocked in her car, and the driver fled on foot. The police identified her and did NOTHING.

In the same town, a drunk driving roadblock netted ONE drunk driver and FIFTY seatbelt violators.

Martial law is another term for "police state". In a police state, the conventional government is suspended (meaning, in the US, that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are no longer the law). Executive Orders are put into force. The law becomes whatever the chief executive says it is.

It is the immediate implementation of a totalitarian government. You will no longer be considered innocent until proven guilty, you will have no rights to a trial by jury, and you may be incarcerated without a trial.

Some may argue that emergency circumstances justify emergency measures of this kind. That argument stands or falls on the nobility and character of those who are left in power under martial law. This calls to mind the famous maxim, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Speaking of the Antichrist in Revelation 13, John said,
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

HOW CAN WE PREPARE?

1. Come to grips with the fact that the Bible says the saints will go through the tribulation.

2. Examine the scriptures so you will know all God's promises for saints in tribulation.

3. Establish your faith in God for the long-run. Determine now that, like the three Hebrew children, you will not bow down to the World Government even on threat of death.

4. Begin to openly discuss with your family and friends your plans to stand for Jesus Christ even if NWO knocks on your door. Resolve now to NEVER accept the Mark of the Beast. Prepare your heart and your family to face whatever they may have to face.

LAKELAND - They call it a ``Voluntary Roadside Interview.''

But for hundreds of motorists flagged down by state troopers Monday on Interstate 4, there was nothing voluntary about it.

Off-duty troopers, hired at $30 an hour, picked motorists at random and directed them to pull off the interstate into a rest stop, where Palm Pilot- toting interviewers waited.

No, this roadside checkpoint wasn't looking for drunken drivers. The survey, which will cost about $150,000, was commissioned by the Florida High Speed Rail Authority to gauge public interest in riding a proposed 120 mph bullet train.
