NEW YORK (CNN) -- Rep. Dick Gephardt took on the Bush administration Tuesday, tying the nation's foreign relations strategy to its economic policies and warning that alienation of other democratic nations would seriously damage America's ability to be a world leader.

>>>>>>>>>"My vision is one in which America takes the lead in building, strengthening and expanding a community of like-minded nations (and) push to the periphery and eventually eliminate the destructive forces that strive on instability,"

Oh, a coalition of the willing. This is different from what Bush is doing in Afghanistan, Iraq and North Korea how?

>>>>>>>>"That begins with a stronger, more vibrant United States economy."

When did Geppy become so pro tax-cut?

Gephardt told the Council on Foreign Relations that the United States should address the "root causes" of terrorism.

Good plan. I say the first step is by NOT coddling those monsters and killing them where we find them.

That pretty much takes care of the "root cause" right there.

. . .address the "root causes" of terrorism.

Like Middle East Arabs hating us and our way of life? Gee, willickers - I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Look at it this way, Dick: Someone is trying to kill you. Are you going to ask questions first and defend yourself later? Good luck.

"After 9-11, we cannot allow a weapon of mass destruction to be used in our country," he said. "It cannot happen."

But we could before 9-11?

Gephardt, the Missourian seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York that the United States should look beyond a simplistic good guy-bad guy world view and address the "root causes" of terrorism.

What is simplistic is to think that terrorists are created because they don't have a job.

What is simplistic is to think that dictators will surrender without the threat of an overwhelming military attack, and sometimes not even then.

What is simplistic is to think that nations which harbor or back transnational terrorists shouldn't be held accountable for their actions.

The "root causes" are simple enough. The Wahhabists believe the Americans, and for that matter, practically anybody that is not a fundamentalist Muslim, behave badly, and for that they must be punished. They have set themselves up to be the judge, jury and executioners of all they deem to be against the Will of Allah.

It is a common problem with True Believers. No room for negotiation or compromise.

But,but,but...you can't shoot first and ask questions later. Even if the questions are really stupid.

Gephardt parades around his lesbian daughter and her "partner" for all the world to see, then he says we need to address "root causes" of terrorism.

HELLO!!! The Homosexual Agenda you push IS one of the root causes of terrorism, moron!!

Gephardt should look no further than his nose for one of the root causes of terrorism.

"President Bush turned a $5 trillion surplus into a $5 trillion deficit".

Was I asleep when this happened?

As far as I know, this country has always been in debt .

Maybe Dick plans to give a lecture to the Saudis "Get real guys! Il-Wahhab was wrong about permanent jihad against the infidel. And stop this Takfir against other muslims." Or is his plan to geive more money to "impoverished" Saudi Arabia?

Dear Dickie,

When we have a terrorist in hand, we do indeed need to get in touch with his feelings. You strap him to a post, point an M16 at him, pull the trigger and ask him, "how does this feel, ya bahstid?"

True. Islam does not think highly of homosexual marriage. Nor do they appreciate those who tolerate or encourage such behavior.

Gephardt: U.S. should focus on 'root causes' of terrorism

Since the 'root causes' were the 'appease and apologize' policies of the previous administration, I would submit that, in hindsight, the election of 2000 pretty much dealt with it.

"My vision is one in which America takes the lead in building, strengthening and expanding a community of like-minded nations (and) push to the periphery and eventually eliminate the destructive forces that strive on instability"

And that, precisely, Mr Gephardt, is why we are in Iraq.
