They held a revolution. Instead of using it to form a well-governed nation, they turned it into a blood bath of hate and greed.

I think the metric system is much more efficient than the Imperial system, and I love escargot. I'm not a Francophile, but I am mature enough to separate the art from the artist, as it were.

But the US' attitude to France recently has me confused nonetheless. Before too many people flame this poster, think about where he's coming from. Most of the news they get is filtered through liberal sources. Alternative news sources which we enjoy are still not widely available
Our main contention with the French now isn't that they failed to support us in the Iraq war, but they actively fought against us behind the scenes and in the UN.

I don't like the metric system. I was born to the American system and will die to the American system, and when I am gone, I want to be buried 6' under, not 2 meters.

Exactly! What have the french EVER done? Not one friggin thing, as far as I can tell. They are known cowards, they smell, they have no moral position - they suck!

What else?
They stabbed us in the back during WWII, helping to defend their German allies by opposing us in North Africa.
They stabbed us in the back again during the late 1950's when they suddenly decided that we could no longer use French ports to support our forces in Germany...there to prevent to Communists from taking all of Europe.
In short, the French have a pretty good recent history of stabbing us in the back.

Ooh I remembered another one:
Making lots of noise about supporting us in Afghanistan but not sending any troops until MONTHS after we'd established a presence, they didn't show up until after we traded out the Marines for the Army.
I never liked the French, and the Frenchmen I've met were all dorks. Their pose during the Iraq war, and their constant violations of the sanctions during Iraq's embargo, was simply standard French behavior.

How the French pay respect to freedom:
Slogans reading "Death to Yankees" and "Rosbeefs (Brits) go home" were painted on the central memorial in Etaples, near the Channel port of Boulogne in northern France.
How Americans show respect for freedom:
Color of a French flag:
Colors of an American Flag:
Fundamental differences, Get it yet?

I've read the thread and I can't believe no one has straightened you on on this.
It is not that France opposed us on Iraq -- countries can disagree in their own best interests and remain amicable. It is HOW they did it. They basically said they would unlaterally use the UN as a baseball bat to hit us in the knees (that is as high as they can reach). They presumptively stated they would pre-emptively and unilaterally trump any move by the US to put together a UN force to make Saddam follow the multiple previous UN resolutions.
Other than kicking you in the balls while trying to grope your wife, what did your old friend you won't talk to do? (and why didn't you take him out back and show him whatfor?). Same thing.
G'day

That's a typical American attitude!!! (and I agree with you all the way) (smiles)
To: Fox on the Run
It goes far beyond Iraq. They want to develop the EU as an anti-American "pole" to confront America on every single issue, regardless of merit. They told the Eastern European countries to shut up and not agree with the US. They said that they would never approve a Security Council resolution against Iraq that would enforce compliance.
To: Fox on the Run
Well, there was the Battle of Poitiers.
The French have come a long way from Charles Martel, though.
