While we were all popping the cork on New Year's Eve, a dubious milestone was quietly passing: The United States and Europe wrapped up their 20th year of failed trade talks on wine. Bilateral negotiations began in 1983, under the Reagan administration.

We should be banning the French from using the word "Champagne." After all, all the grapes they use to make their so called regional product come from vines that were inported from the United States after they had a massive die-off there.

Ok folks, here is a simple solution - Include the country of origin in the "GI".
French Champagne vs American Champagne
etc.
