FreeRepublic Hologram

A FreeRepublic Hologram

Here's a little diddy that we at ActionAmerica.org worked up for all you FReepers out there. I hope that you enjoy it. It's a plain paper hologram, also referred to as a stereogram. I chose a red, white and blue background for obvious reasons. An explanation, with download and print instructions follows.

The image is copyrighted, but all that I require is that if you wish to make copies to pass on to others via email or to post it on your web site, you must retain the copyright notice near the upper right corner of the image and place a notice of this requirement in the email or on the web page, where it appears. Though not required, I would appreciate a FReepMail, if you should post it to a web page.

The image that you see on this page is reduced in size, to allow it to fit in your browser window, without having to resize that window. In fact, if you don't have a Mac, that generally uses wider screens or a PC with a giant screen, set to a high resolution, the full size image won't all fit on your screen at 100%, anyway. But, that shouldn't matter, for two reasons.

First, you can see the hologram, just as it is presented on this page. Second, if you want to see the larger image or print it, the underlying, full size image is actually present. All you have to do is click on the image and save it to your disk and what you will have, can be displayed in Preview, at appropriate magnification for your monitor or printed on an 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper in landscape mode, without any loss of resolution. It is sized to take up most of a letter size page. The file is just over 300KB.

If you are familiar with these holograms, you can skip over the rest of this text and go straight to the image. If not, then here is how you view it. The trick is to focus each eye, individually, on the screen (paper), but have the gaze of both eyes meet at a point about 4 inches behind the screen (paper). The result is that each eye is focusing on a different point on the screen (paper). If that explanation does not make sense, there is a diagram following the hologram, that shows what I am talking about. This hologram is optimized for viewing at about 20 inches. In other words, that's where you should be able to get your initial focus locked on, best. Once you see the image, you will find that you can see it at quite a range of distances.

To help you focus, I have included 2 yellow dots at the bottom of the image. When you are focused properly, they will appear to be 3 (not 2) equally spaced dots and the middle dot will be crystal clear. When that middle dot is sharp, just follow the background up and the hollogram should be in focus. Here's a hint. Immediately under the copyright box is the letter "E" in the word "FREE". Further, a hint image, that shows what you should be looking for, follows the diagram, so if you don't want to see the hint, don't scroll past the bottom of the diagram, until you are ready to look at it.

Enjoy!

Here is the hint image. It's what is hidden in all that mess.

Keep on FReepin'.

Very cool!!

It's been a while since I've seen a hologram like this, so it took a few seconds for my eyes to lose their focus enough so I could make out the images.

I clearly made out the letters, but had* a lot* of trouble seeing the FR eagle logo/image in the upper corner.

I should rest my eyes and then look again; cause right now, it sort of looks uh...like a blob of something.

I think that it is a little clearer, if you view it at 100%, which may require printing it out.

The eagle isn't as good as I would like, but it was the best that I could find, in short order. I had to convert it to gray scale and even then, I had to limit the number of shades of gray, just to get a moderately good image. If I can find a better eagle to start with, I will redo the hologram and post it here. It just takes time. Yesterday, I was in idle mode all day, so I had the time. Who knows what today will bring.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, it is much easier to see if I save it then open it in Paint Shop Pro and resize.

The small image here is just a bit hard to resolve (and I've been able to "do" stereograms since I was very small).

Good work though! Thanks!

I really wish I had the physical ability to make sense out of these things. Unfortunately, I can only look out of one eye at a time, and shifting my sight from one eye to the other doesn't exactly work on these stereograms. Oh well, I'm sure it's cool.
