Discovery Channel: Covert Action - al Qaeda anthrax operation on West Coast foiled
Posted on 01/16/2004 7:50:28 PM PST by QuasiMojo
Did anybody see this show? I missed the first 10 minutes or so, so I'm wondering - was this real or a fictional possibility in the war on terror?
According to the show, Navy Seals wiped out an al Qaeda operation in Mexico, killing a rogue Russian bioweapons expert. Apparently the group planned to hit a California sports stadium last summer.
This show scared the crap out of me! Was it true? Anybody know the name of this episode? My local ZAP2it guide seemed to list the wrong episode.

Did you folks see this?

I believe these operations are taken from accounts of anonymous agents in the war on terror. I saw one last week of Navy Seals infiltrating Libya and killing a group of terrorists (including an Iraq terrorist) in a villa that led to the arrests to some terrorists in Seattle. The info gathered from the bust indicated an assassination attempt on a leading Iraqi opponent of Saddam Hussein.
I'm probably just gullible though. They are damn entertaining.

It's real.
Tonight was the third show. The first show showed how they uncovered IN IRAQ terrorist (Al Queda) plans of hits on Frankfurt and Seattle last February/March 2003. I missed the second show and only got in on the end of the first one. I missed tonight's too, but I'm going to start taping them. I'm not sure how many there are.

I did not see this program, (and I am probably glad now to have missed the *fear* aspect), but I am so pleased with our efforts. I think we have averted MANY "strikes" of late...

As the President said, "... much of which will not be publicized and will go unheralded," ... when he spoke of how this war on terrorism would be waged. It's beginning to become clear why Qaddafi decided to play nice.

I didn't see this show, but there's another program on A & E that you might want to avoid. I had set the DVR to record "Between the Lines" tonight and feel asleep on the couch before the program came on. The program was supposed to be about letters from and to the White House. I awoke part-way through it to find Martin Sheen speaking about JFK, PT109, and the message Kennedy had scribbled on the coconut during WWII when his boat was torpedoed. At commercial break they announced that coming up would be Jimmy Carter reading one of his favorite letters. When they returned, they had Hillary Clinton reading one of Eleanor Roosevelt's letters. So much for letters sent to the White House. I stopped the recording and turned the program off, disgusted with the liberal spin on the whole thing. I forgot to mention that Robert Downey hosted the program...what a loser. Candice Bergen and Priscilla Presley were also scheduled readers, but I didn't wait to listen to their bilge.

YES,
I think you are EXACTLY correct. I would rather not know the details, but I DO think we are winning significant battles, and mostly due to the courage and resolve of our President.

If the public knew more about the specifics and extent of the danger and the secret battles won, there would be much more support.
But it cannot be. Can't fight a secret war on the evening news.
To: QuasiMojo
I believe the show depicts hypothetical events vaguely based on elements of various real-life scenarios.
In other words, don't take it literally.

agreed. I turned it off when the black pantsuit came on, also.

Does anyone know the name of this show and the series?
I checked the Discoverty Channel schedule and didn't see anything resembling this show as described. Are you sure it was Discovery?
Thanks -- RR

I saw the one about the Libya operation that saved an Iraqi from assassination in London, but I thought it was on Frontline on PBS.
