You also have to consider that attacks in Bosnia and Kosovo would inflict casualties on Europeans who are aiding and abetting the Islamists in Iraq and elsewhere. They are not so stupid as to enrage their abettors.

Al Qaeda's supposed 'abettors' are currently deployed in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda's home turf, so your theory needs a little tweaking.

Not as much as one would hope, but the trend is in that direction.

They started out as an organized crime syndicate, and the hard core will wind up that way, after divesting itself of it's popular appeal and political power, IMO.
