"They don't see any survivors," said Paul Mulrooney, a spokesman for Georgia Express, the Canada-based airline that owned the Cessna 208 Caravan single-engine plane, one of seven in its fleet. "At this point in time, it's looking rather bleak."

The Ontario-based air service runs only during the winter, when ice makes the ferries inoperable, Mulrooney said.

One of my favorite planes however I don't think it can fly into known icing conditions.

Downed Airliner Found in Lake Erie

SANDUSKY, OH-January 18, 2004 — An airline president says there are apparently no survivors from the plane that crashed in Lake Erie with at least nine people on board.
The single-engine Georgian Express plane took off in bad weather from Ontario's Pelee Island in the middle of Lake Erie Saturday. The pilot radioed a frantic call for help shortly after taking off, but controllers lost contact.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter found the wreckage of the Cessna 208 Caravan about a mile west of the island, 20 miles north of Sandusky, Ohio.

Georgian Express president Paul Mulroony says the plane is nose-down in the water with ice around it. He says it appears that no one survived. All were Canadians.

Airline officials say as many as ten people – nine passengers and a pilot – may have been on board. It's unclear whether one passenger made the flight.
