I immediately told him that this is what Capitalism is all about. This is the Invisible Hand of Adam Smith. No Central Planner (no matter how smart) can tell the factories what to do. Instead, the mass of consumers makes choices -- and these choices determine how many factories will be built, what the factories manufacture, and how much the goods will cost. The crowd is smarter than the Bureaucrat, which is why Capitalism always beats Socialism.
He looked at me for a few seconds, then muttered, "You don't get it ..." and walked away.
Now that is funny. I cannot say how many times I've heard and seen that...often with me following saying, "If you think I don't get it, explain it to me!"
In the real world, the truth is that "Team-Building" generally is a method of stealing sharing the credit and spreading the blame.
A further reality is that the "smartness" of the group (herd) is usually the IQ of the brightest individual divided by the number of "Team Players".
