I named the Founders that considered themselves Deists. I also stated very clearly that Laus Deo is on the Washington Monument. My sources were not only debunking sites, but the National Archives and the encyclopedia as well as quite a few other web sites. The debunking sites were the ones that gave me a time frame when the Laus Deo email involving the Washington Monument began circulating. You really need to thoroughly read something before you respond. You did not even read the Treaty of Tripoli as it is informally referred to, our Founders did not want the US to have a dominant religion, they wanted all religions to be respected equally and no one to be put above all others. They knew the danger in this, religious extremists like to paint things differently to suit their agenda.
The so-called debunk sites have a liberal slant that I don't mind calling to others attention. They are hardly impartial arbiters of information. Free Republic does a much better job of that, imho.
The quoted debunk site says that most of the Founders were deists. That isn't just wrong; it's grossly wrong.
If they can't get that right, then they have nothing I'm interested in.
