It's all so familiar; 1974 all over again. This time it's going to be different. No losing heart. 1974? Very much so, in the sense that the Democrats are again trying to remove an honorable incumbent with extreme tendentiousness. But I prefer to say that the Democrats want 1964 - to elect a president, and a Congress, which would be as politically overwhelming and as feckless and inept as the Johnson Administration. A catastrophe in foreign and domestic policy from which we have been gradually recovering for forty years. That is their objective, but they will please God fall halfway short - squarely in the 1984 Reagan reelection landslide.

What an excellent essay! I am glad I took the time to read it. I think you should condense this and submit it to your largest local paper as an op-ed piece.
To: marron
I should say that the condensation would be for the purposes of the paper's requirements, not because I think you have wasted words here. This is beautifully written and was a pleasure to read. Thanks again!

Excellent review of history to this point..

MM, thank you for posting the link to this outstanding essay. Marron, I needed very much to read this today, having experienced a fleeting skip in my determination after all the news of the week. Thank you.

Yeah. I have it bookmarked, and tend to link it into any thread about the tragedy of Vietnam. A Noble Soldier, Not a Great Soldier
