You're doing fine. When I was young I was a properly indoctrinated, pro-choice socialist. Then I married a soldier and had children. My feminist views mellowed for a few years, then my children began school. I spent about 6 months in a state of shock before I figured out what to do about all this crap I was suddenly being exposed to. That same year, I started homeschooling and became a rabid FReeper.

There are about a dozen serious points of contention between the left and the right and one really only figures it out one at a time. The saying goes something like this, "If you're not a liberal in your 20's, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by 30, you have no brain." I'll add to that, if you begin to have conservative views in your 20's, you have a very fine brain! ;-)
