COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Jan. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family is coming to Nashville, and bringing with it a message of hope -- that for those struggling with unwanted homosexuality, change is possible. The pro-family organization brings its 25th national Love Won Out conference to Nashville's Two Rivers Baptist Church on Feb. 7 amid opposition from local homosexual activists who will hold a conference of their own.

Mike Haley, a former homosexual and Love Won Out conference host, said, "Love Won Out exists for those seeking truth about homosexuality, who are troubled by the one-sided message presented in our culture. Thousands of men and women, dissatisfied with the gay life, have successfully struggled away from it. We are pleased that the Nashville community has invited us to share our perspective on the issue of homosexuality."

He added that the conference will address misconceptions about homosexuality as well as an understanding of how local churches can offer an appropriate, compassionate response to the homosexual community. "We encourage the public to come to our conference with open minds and hear the real stories behind this controversial topic," Haley said.

Conference speakers include experts in the field of homosexuality and gender identity, such as Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D., president of the National Association of Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. Nicolosi has just written A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality, and has appeared on the Fox's News Channel's O'Reilly Factor. Other speakers include Dick Carpenter, Ph.D., a veteran teacher, principal and college professor; and Jane Boyer, a nurse practitioner and former lesbian.

Since its inception in 1998, Focus on the Family's Love Won Out conference has shared its message with more than 20,000 people in 24 cities and has experienced nearly a 25 percent increase in attendance over the past year.

"Gay activists continue to force-feed our culture with misconceptions and half-truths regarding the issue of homosexuality," Haley concluded. "People continue to hunger for the truth, and our hope is that Feb. 7 will be a day of hope and healing for them."
