While manning the College Republicans booth at Stanford a few years ago, our son was stunned to see Chelsea walk by and flash him a smile.

He said she's much cuter in person. There was a standing policy that no gossip was to be printed about her in the school paper, and anyone even writing about her would be threatened with suspension.

Quentin Roosevelt.....Teddy Roosevelt Jr.

Teddy Roosevelt Jr. went on to become a Brigadier General and died of a heart attack in Normandy after the D-Day landing.

Quentin Roosevelt went on to become a fighter pilot in the 95th Aero Squadron during World War One. He was shot down and died on July 14, 1918. The Nieuport 28 in the U.S. Air Force Museum is painted with the "Kicking Mule" insignia of Quentin's 95th Aero Squadron.

I have heard that too. I don't know for sure. It seems the daughters I posted have all had good lives after their Father's terms. Patti Davis' life has been sketchy after the fact, but it would have been of her own making.

Something else, I personally got to know James Roosevelt (FDR son) in the late 70s. He was a great guy with a great house in Newport Beach, CA. He loved talking history to a young punk like me.

I can't believe I read the whole thing. :-)

And, by and large, enjoyed it, too.

Good article.

I especially liked the part where Clinton couldn't help his daughter with her algebra homework. WHY am I NOT surprised?

(And I bet W has NO problems with that stuff.)

I remember reading somewhere that (in general, not always) children of the president usually go on to have some very sad and wretched lives.

I'm not so sure about that...

Thats why I said in general, not always. There are some great exception, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, though I believe one of his sons either killed himself or died from reckless behavior.

One of JOhn Adams' sons, actually the one everyone adored, died as an alcoholic after letting down his family and being cut off by John Adams who refused to see him. There was a streak of alcoholism in Adam's familly. Actually if you look at most presidential families, there is a black sheep and oddly enough absent fathers. Clinton had a no good brother, unmarried mother. Johnson had a no good alcoholic brother as did Nixon if I remember right. Carter seemed to have had a bad bro but my memory is poor. Don't know about Roosevelt, seems the kids had a bad time. Reagan had Patti and didn't he have a brother who was bad news. And there is Marvin Bush. Maybe everyone has a black sheep.
