I smoke, and I always go outside. I don't even smoke in the designated sections of restaurants. I wait and go outdoors, and my smoke wafts away, to blend in with the exhaust of cars driven by hypocrites who endanger my health yet sympathize with control freaks because being a smoke Nazi is the latest craze.

Now, when you give up your vehicle, or stop riding the bus or plane or whatever you do to contribute to my lung damage, then we'll talk. Fair enough, sugah?

I smoke in my own home (live alone) other wise my behavior in public is the same as yours.

I've been this way umpteen years as well. I know it bothers some. Unlike some sanctimonious "I'm better than you are" types, I decided not to be an in-yer-face kinda guy. But for Control Freaks and Perfectionists and Drama Queens who like to point you out, it's never enough.
