0.22 inches is 5.588 inches - I'm sure the article was just converting the units for the benefit of its non-US readers, rather than specifying a type of cartrige other than .22 rimfire.

Would have made a great Maxwell Smart routine.

Max went down that road. He had a gun disguised as a hard wired phone in his apartment in "Too Many Chiefs," first broadcast 11/27/1965. You dialed 117 to fire it. I wonder if any of these disguised cell phones use the same code? Max and 99 also had revolvers that doubled as phones in "Ship of Spies," a two parter shown first on 4/2 and 9/1966. However Max generally limited unintentional damage with his phones to trodding on 99's toes.

"Why do I suspect that the cell phone part works too."

You suspect that because the alarmist writer of the article wants you to suspect that. He never actually lies or omits the truth—he mentions early on that the gun is installed in a "hollow cell phone case" [emphasis mine], hollow meaning that there are no electronics inside. However, he could easily have said outright "Though they resemble cell phones superficially, they do not function as phones and can easily be discerned from real phones simply by trying to turn them on." But that wouldn't sell subscriptions to his news service.

If I sign up for a one-year calling plan, can I get one of these for free?

My favorite was when Max had to pose as a reporter and he had a tape recorder disguised as a camera and a camera disguised as a tape recorder. I thought he also once had a phone disguised as a gun, but I don't remember.

I have one disguised as an older Motorola Microtac. The heavy duty battery contains 24 rounds of .32 auto. Punch 1 for single shot, 3 for full auto and 0 to fire. I also have nuclear mid-range ballistic missle disguised as a phone booth...

Now that you described the episode, I remember it. (I seem to be getting older every year. Can't figure out what is causing it, though.) Thanks for the memories.

Where can i buy one that shoots 45 ammo?

You might try ASI. The Ares .410 3-cell flashlights they offer would also seem to be easily convertable to a .45.

Yes, the flashlight actually works. They also turn up on the gun auction sites from time to time, like this one. The smaller .380 versions are fairly nifty too.
