Mexico City (dpa) - The number of Mexicans illegally entering the United States increased by 66 per cent from 1990 to 2002, a Mexican government report said Monday.

The study, by the National Population Council (Conapo), found that the number of Mexicans who cross the border illegally every year has grown to more than 1 million. Of that number, only about a third achieve their goal of staying in the United States to work.

The number of Mexicans living in the United States went from 4.3 million in 1994 to 9.5 million in 2002, according to U.S. estimates.

According to Conapo, in the 12 years of the study an average 390,000 Mexicans remained in the United States annually.

Last year, Mexicans in the United States sent roughly 12 billion dollars back to their relatives in Mexico...

Mexico's population is 104,907,991 people (July 2003 est.).

There were an estimated 9.5 million Mexicans in the US in 2002 (and that figure is probably low).

But if it is correct, then some 10% of the population of Mexico has moved to the US.

Having grown up in Texas, I have definitely seen a change within the past decade. I think it's time that anyone hiring an undocumented worker, or any worker with fake documentation, should be held accountable and punished to the highest extent of the law.

I, for one, do not care how our economy will be effected. We have people in this country that will work, even if they are doing jobs they don't want to do.

What part of illegal can't our government and Mexico understand? This must be stopped. Just because you come here illegally and have a child born here does not make you or the child a citizen.

Our laws needs to be observed and these people sent back. Too bad so sad if these people do jobs the rest of us won't do, let these jobs go undone until legal Americans get them done.

Yup...I'd agree with you. There is no way our census workers know how many are here. Heck....most of them are afraid to even talk with their own government officials, not to mention the government officials of a country they are in illegally!

Again...what happened those innumerable "racist" militias that were that were going to take the law into their own hands to protect America.

I have a feeling that we are having the same problem that we are having in the "war on drugs." As long as there are multi-millions of dollars, or even billions of dollars, to be made in profit of some sort, our govt. is not going to say they don't want any of it. People are people and just because they are with the government doesn't mean they aren't as greedy as others.

Until we make it to where there is no money to be made off these workers, we will have them in our country and the govt. is not going to solve the problem.

IMHO, THE WAY TO HANDLE THIS IS TO

POSITION NOW FOR REFERENDUMS ON GENERAL ELECTION BALLOTS IN KEY BATTLE GROUND STATES FOR 2004 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORAL VOTES, ASKING A "CLEAR UP/DOWN" VOTE ON ILLEGAL ALIENS' AND SOCIAL SERVICES. THE MORE STANDARDIZED THESE INDIVIDUAL STATE REFERENDUMS, THE BETTER. PARTICULARLY GET THEM IN CALIFORNIA, ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO AND TEXAS.

Then, force the presidential candidates, like it or not, to take clear positions on these. Candidates from the two major parties as well as third parties, and also see to it that every member of Congress in a state that has such a referendum, also take a stand for NOVEMBER 2004. That is one way to put this in the foreground as a major campaign issue. But the work, petitions, signatures, all have to start NOW!!

If 500 thousand illegals come in this year, then lower next year's legal quota by 500 thousand. Do that annually to not exceed the allowed quotas.

The question that I would like to see the "powers that be" answer is : "why is almost EVERYONE (regardless of D or R) in Washington more commited to allowing illegals (and those that use them) break the law and get by with it, than to honor, support and protect any by-the-book, hard-working AMERICAN citizen?"

Don't believe it? Ask the border patrol, anyone living in CA, TX, NM, AZ, GA, TN.....etc, etc....., the latest workers to lose their jobs due to company exports to other countries... Just ask anyone in the 80%+ segment of our own population who are TOTALLY against amnesty, right to work programs or any other pass for illegals.

Supposedly, they can't vote, so WHY the pandering? If there ever was a reason to really suspect that "shadow gov." conspiracies might have a leg....this is it. What is the point? It doesn't set a good example, remedy the problem, help state budgets, strengthen the economy or make the country safer from another attack. So, why is this being foisted upon us?

Ergo, if the reports of militias were a outright bald-faced lie, this clear and obvious welcoming of immigrants is clearly known by the powers in control, and likewise the ones we presume that are in power are absolutely hamstrung to do a thing about this flood.

The only way I could see a stopping of the tide would be an all out war, and no matter how much I'm against them coming here, I don't know that my Christian side would let me agree with that.

We definitely have the military might to do something about it, but do we have the stomach for such a mass event?

With all due respect, "we" aren't in control of anything. There is a plan and a purpose to the near-dragging them across the border, but there are so few who have the foggiest notion we have been invaded???

My Christian side says the Boss is calling the shots, and get out of the way and let God be God.

I understand what you mean when you say your Christian side does not allow you to want to take the action that needs to be taken, but when do we take a stand?

Many that come are criminals and we have many in jail right now. They do not come to be Americans. They do not come to learn our ways and language. They are driving up our taxes and causing our insurance premiums to skyrocket in cost.

If word got back that you were shot on the spot for entering illegally, then they would quit coming.
