Probably accounts for the fact that 12 years ago, in this exact town, nobody spoke spanish. Now you hear it every day.

Wouldn't be so bad if they spoke English too. I'm reminded of a time in McDonald's when I had occasion to ask for salt. After several attempts, I switched to sal (Spanish for salt to you northern gringos), whereupon there was immediate comprehension. Salt apparently was not close enough.
