The growing worldwide sex slave industry is a subject that interests me, but I think the above statement is inaccurate. That some societies permit this treatment of women is not, fundamentally a political issue. It's religious and cultural and no amount of tinkering with laws will change it.

I agree. Further, I think that the only "growing" part of the trade is its internationalization. I think within Arab countries, the basic practice has probably gone on for thousands of years.

I can't say that any of this surprises me in the least. Those mullahs are nothing more than barbarians with access to 20th Century weapons and communications. Maybe 21st Century communications, come to think of it. But still barbarians, none the less.

They need to wake up and realize that if they were to find themselves in an Islamic dictatorship (and let's face it Islam is dictatorship) as single women, they would be liable to kidnapping, rape, and slavery just as brutal as what the "native" women are exposed to.

Thanks for posting this article. The broader implication of Islamicist relegation of women to chattel status is in Islam's long flirtation with the Utopian left. The Ba'athists and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem had their asssociation with National Socialism and there has long been a Pan-Arab courting of Soviet ideas and friendship. The silence of the political Left in the West over this outrageous exploitation of women should not suprise us. After all, cosmolpolitan internationalism holds that ALL cultures and societies are of EQUAL value. In this radically egalitarian view, who are we to criticize the practices of Sharia(Koranic Law)in the Sudan, or Saudi Arabia, or Yemen? Just because wife beating and the chador are outside the petty bourgeois, Christian standard for humane treatment, doesn't necessarily condemn such practices. Thus, N.O.W., the EU, the UN, and the neo-Coms cannot bring themselves to rail against this gross offense against women. They are complicit by their silence. No big deal if slavers are trading in the lascivious abuse of callow girls. It's so easy to dehumanize certain groups whilst on their quest for social nirvana. Note: the torture rooms and mass graves of Saddam; the whippings and summary executions by the Taliban; the Palestinian textbooks portraying Jews as apes or swine; the indoctrination of children to suicidal martyrdom; the incineration of tourists in Bali; the decapitaion of Christians in the Philippines; and, of course, the destruction of thousands of our countrymen in lower Manhattan. The dichotomy presented to Leftists by their abandonment of these young girls is ruinous because the destruction of innocents is so obviously wrong. The Left's silence bankrupts any moral claim it might make and Islam itself is fractured on the rocky truth. Young Muslim girls are an appetizer to such insatiable gluttons for human misery and our silence is simply not an option.

Good point. My priest says that this is the Achilles heel of Mohammedanism. Still, it's a tough society to penetrate. Apostacy is punishable by death.

Mohammedanism is also vulnerable to the truth, in whatever form it takes. And God has given us the internet to evangelize Mohammedans painlessly. I know people who evangelize and correspond with Mohammedans in the Mideast by e-mail. What we desperately need are Christian apologetics websites in Arabic.

I've come to the opinion that the left courts islam so vigorously because islam is a theocracy - and that is what the left wants - they want God and the government to be the same thing. This drive to wedge Christianity away from America, is an attempt to create a void to be filled with the state as a religion. islam is an end run because if it gets firmly established here - the left's goal of church and state being one will be fulfilled.

I like what you say about the Left's pusuit of a void. Would that mean that when atheists scourge the very presence of religion from our public square, that they are erecting a nihilistic idol to their god Nada, a great, amorphous blob of nothing that establishes their nullity as the state religion? Once nullification of previously sacred tenets is complete, the void can be filled with their Utopian drek. Heaven will have been secularized, and all mores deemed acceptable. One will be able to shout "2+2=5!" with impunity. Exhibitionist whores will "whup it out" on national TV. Infanticide and cloning will be available at convenience stores.
