It's not even clear how many had box cutters vs other kinds of knives. I read another story saying a few may have had 'leatherman' type of folding knives. It is known some of the terrorists bought them and they were not found with the rest of their belongings later. Knives with less than 4 inch blades were not prohibited on planes at the time (pre-911). Nobody knows exactly what weapons they had, now it sounds like knives and mace but no gun (as previously reported one of the flights).

The laying down of mace or some other chemical barrier makes it sound like this was rehearsed, possible countermeasures by the crew or passengers like maybe an off-duty cop or something were considered , and contingencies built in. Oh, I don't know, maybe rehearsed in a cabin mock up? I wonder who had one of those?

With the pre 9/11 screening rules, this chemical could have been hidden in a can of spray deodorant or some other part of a toiletries kit.

I've heard about the leathermans, but never about the mace. Seriously, did y'all know about the mace before hearing this audio?
