Bigamist with four husbands at 23 is jailed

A woman who was married to four men at the same time by the age of 23 was jailed for six months yesterday.

Judge Peter Thompson described Amileannya Carmichael, a part-time model, as "a very predatory female".

She repeatedly changed her name on her marriage certificate to avoid detection and left her fourth husband heartbroken after only a few months when she moved in with one of his friends.

Judge Thompson told her at Ipswich Crown Court: "It is important the public knows that marriage is upheld as an institution by the courts. Marriage is still an important component of our social fabric and it deserves respect."

The court heard that Carmichael, now 25, married for the first time in December 1996 in York, a day after her 18th birthday. Her husband was Paul Rigby, a soldier, but they split up when he was posted abroad.

In 1999 she married Sean Cunningham in Leeds and the next year took Chris Barratt in Rotherham as husband No 3. West Yorkshire police were alerted about her two unlawful marriages and she was cautioned for two offences of bigamy in August 2001.

By February the following year Carmichael had left Mr Barratt and met James Matthews on a train.

Within a month she had moved into his home in Ipswich, proposed to him and married him at St Thomas's Church, Ipswich, where he was a member of the congregation.

Michael Crimp, prosecuting, said Carmichael told Mr Matthews that she had been married twice before but that those marriages had been annulled. A week after the wedding she told him that she was still married to her third husband.

When she moved in with one of Mr Matthews's friends and rejected her husband's pleas to go back to him, he told the police that she had still been married when she married him.

Charles Riddleston, defending, said: "When she was arrested, she told officers, 'Oh yeah, I'm guilty aren't I?' She made no bones about it."

A psychiatric report showed that Carmichael had a personality disorder that made her alternate between periods of excitement and depression. Sentencing her, Judge Thompson said: "You are an attractive young woman and you might be described as a very predatory female.

"The Yorkshire police treated you as generously as they could. You could easily have been prosecuted then. You did this with your eyes open and quite clearly flouted the law."

What a joke. All she had to do was get divorces and what she did would have been perfectly legal. The justice system is just mad because she didn't go through their formal procedures for serial bigamy.

"I don't want to hear feminists crying about how hard it is to find a man. Apparently there are plenty of willing men out there waiting for proposals."

The article mentioned she was part time model so its possible that the blood drained from the guy's brains at an accelerated pace, giving her an advantage over the other ladies.

Are they being rationed?

No, not that I know of.

In Rock's routine, the wife knows she had nothing to do with the condom missing from the 3-pack. Unless he has blown it up as a party balloon... Hence her question "Where's the other condom?"

In the case of this young lady with multiple husbands the question might rightly be where are the other (insert number here) condoms?

If she has four husbands, she's a polyandrist. "Bigamy" literally means "two women."

Yes. The "I couldn't help" it defense. Thus making men, along with unattractive women, victims of attactive women.

I was following you but it seems easy enough to replace a condom. The woman in question, seemed to have little problem replacing husbands.

You know, it was just a stand-up comedy routine. I don't think Chris Rock was trying to pass it off as an Agatha Christie mystery where all the clues have to make sense.

It literally means "two marriages". (See my post above.)

Exactly. She just engaged in serial polygamy, as many people do. She simply did not bother with all the legal hoops she was supposed to jump through. I did not see any indication that she asked for support from any of the men that she left.

The root "gamos"

Who was it said, "Let the "gamos" begin."?

Marriage is still an important component of our social fabric and it deserves respect.

Where did they find this judge? This is a very different opinion from the Mass. Supreme Court who says that marriage means nothing. To the point where two people of the same sex must be allowed to legally marry. If this woman is in Mass she could have this ruling overturned.

Yes --- it seems she was just failing to get the divorces and not actually trying to have four husbands all at once. Divorce is expensive.

"I don't know if you've ever seen the Chris Rock bit where the female keeps asking "Where's the other condom?"

Did you ever see the skit on the Dave Chevelle show where a TV camera woman is asking people on the street to tell about the craziest thing they ever did?

Dave is walking with his date and she is asked "What is the craziest thing you ever did?"

Dave's date response "I guess it was this one time in college when I had sex with three men at once."

The same question is asked of Dave and he says with a look of disgust on his face "The craziest thing I ever did was having sex with Miss Gangbang here without a condom."

That show is hysterically racist. Did you see the skit where the white guy lives with the black people like "The Real World" and they make fun of him and stab his dad? Funny, but unsettling

According to her photo, this judge needs to get out more. Or perhaps "attractive" is changed a bit in translation from English to Texan.

Sorry, FReepers, couldn't paste the photo . . . they put a voodoo hex on it and I ain't smart enough to figger out how to get past it.

I usually don't watch the show, but did watch the "Best of" episode that was on a few weeks ago.

I like the skit with the workers at the Copier store.

They acted just like people at the US post office or the DMV.
