Counting Down to February 11th
"To have the party behind this issue is a blessing to me and every lesbian, bisexual, and transgender. It's a historic day." So said Massachusetts Democrat Tom Barbera, after the Bay State Democratic Party leadership voted to support a resolution calling for same-sex "marriage" in that state.
At the same time, the Virginia House of Delegates voted 77-18 in favor of a resolution calling on the U.S. Congress to immediately pass a federal marriage amendment. The Arizona state legislature is considering a similar measure, more proof that states around the nation are looking to the federal government to help them avoid a ripple effect should same-sex "marriages" begin occurring in Massachusetts later this year. Clearly, now is the time for Congress to act on the federal marriage amendment. President Bush said he would support an amendment "if necessary," and it could be no more "necessary" than now.
On February 11th, the Massachusetts State Legislature will vote to either approve or block an attempt to put the same-sex "marriage" issue on the ballot, in the form of an amendment, so that the people of Massachusetts can decide whether they want marriage protected or destroyed. Today, FRC launched a "Marriage Countdown" on our website, www.frc.org, to count down the days until the February 11th vote. By the time the clock hits zero, we should know whether unelected judges or the people of Massachusetts will decide whether marriage in that state - and perhaps, America - will remain one man, one woman.
