I served from '69 to '73 and I can tell you it usually took some "pull", knowing someone with connections, to get into the Guard. People went in so they wouldn't get drafted. That's the truth. Clinton tried to get in the reserves for the same reason. Then the lottery was instituted and he got a high number so he blew off the reserves. Sorry, but that is a fact about the NG in the sixties and early seventies. But, that does not make serving in the guard dishonorable. Now days the guard is going to war if there is one.

Maybe he had some pull and maybe he didn't..... But the poster 'earplug' has made a blatant statement that Bush jumped '500 waiting in line'.... That's a damn lie but the poster has ran and won't post his source for it..... That's all I'm after... just for him to post his source or admit he's wrong and spreading untruths.

Yes there were waiting lines for certain positions in the guard.... but pilots? Jumping 500...... Come on.......

What would be the probability that he could have been a pilot in one of the other services of the military? Is it true the Air National Guard was looking for pilots? It's just interesting he wouldn't have taken a desk job rather than flying one of those jets. His whole life basically follows what his father did. He wanted to learn to fly in a part of our armed services. Grant it, it ended up being the Guard.
