FCC to investigate Super Bowl breast-baring
CNN ^ | February 2, 2004 | CNN

Despite its official apology, MTV did not hesitate to promote the "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional" incident after the fact.

A Web page headline trumpeted: "Janet Jackson Got Nasty at the MTV-Produced Super Bowl Halftime Show."

Continuing, the Web page said, "Jaws across the country hit the carpet at exactly the same time. You know what we're talking about ... Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a kinky finale that rocked the Super Bowl to its core."

I wish the FCC would rock MTV and CBS to its core...

Are they ten year olds? Maybe fourteen? The venue was absolutely inappropriate, but if they think a boob is the height of snicker, blush, giggles and naught, I have a whole stack of National Geographics from the 50's they can peruse in their bathrooms.

If I am right, FCC could not regulate MTV, per se, as it is a cable channel that is not broadcast. Well, they are on broadcast TV now. Let's see if anything real happens now.

"...kinky finale that rocked the Super Bowl to its core..."

Many claim that MTV is pushing this crap only because that's what consumers want. I disagree. The people at Viacom and MTV have definately an agenda which is separate from simple economics.

This was Janet Jacksons latest attempt to remain relevant on the pop music scene. Sorry, but Miss Jackson's 40 year old boobs didn't quite measure up.

I thought it was stupid, tasteless and totally classless. Maybe some of the aforementioned 14 year olds thought it was cool, anyone with an ounce of sense would think it more of a yawn.

Looks like the tagline that I've had for a while has some increased relevance.

I'm with you. I can't figure out how a child is harmed by a 10 second view of a breast.

oh now ain't these folks just ever so proud of themselves? can't you just see them high-fiving each other as folks express their offense of having sex brought into their living rooms when they expected football?

wonder if they are still high-fiving after hearing CBS say "no mas" to them. no more half-time shows for the MTV'ers. that ought to cost 'em.

In spite of the time of night, this was a family type
program (a sporting event). If this is not corrected,
families will have to limit their viewing to certain cable
or satellite channels. This disgusting presentation should
be fined heavily!

Couldn't have said it better. Let's hope they can match MTV's and CBS's ability to shock and offend the execs at Viacom.

My four year old was watching the SB with me - thankfully my wife and I sent him to his room after the opening acts of the Half Time show - we knew what to expect.

LOLOLOLOL....geez I guess. It looked a little droopy to me. Said the same to Mr. C4E this morning. We channel hopped during the half-time show cause it was....BOOOORRRING. Too bad the entertainment was old, dated, tired stuff from the 80's.

[FOGIE]

When I was in college, MTV music videos were art. Each was a mini-movie, and sometimes the plot was entirely different from the song. Total Eclipse of the Heart was surreal brilliance. When the Bullet Hits the Bone? Brilliant! Sadly, around 1985, those kind of videos migrated to VH1, and from there to Oblivion. Today, you have "T!ts and Midgets", if you have "music videos" at all on the so called "Music Video channel." (Most of the content isn't music, and what is...well, usually it isn't music. The envelope has been pushed right off the cliff. Sad.

You're in the minority then. Think some more.
